I should have clarified... I haven't read it yet but I trust the author.

OK I got The New Zone System Manual.

It stinks. Sorry about the bum steer.

Actually a very chaotic read, almost like this thread.

Well when I meter a zone 1 close in for a contra jour scene I need to allow for more flare if I'm using an un coated lens than a multi coated lens. Because zone 1 on the print is detail above flare base density and fog.

Sorry, should have said in Zone System testing flare doesn't seem to play a factor.

you are using your eye and experience
and the experience of the film manufacturers
to determine your exposure.
