FS: Rolleiflex 3.5E Planar - Fleenor-overhauled, Maxwell screen

For sale is one of my beauties. I hesitate to sell because it is one of my most treasured Rolleiflex TLRs but I have more than my share as is and am looking to finance another hobby. Serial # 1753xxx.

I bought this originally from Randy of Holgamods about 6-7 years ago. In 2012 I sent it to Harry Fleenor for a look-over and he did a full shutter and transport overhaul as well as a professional install and calibration of a Maxwell #1 screen. This is the screen with a grid, split image and a micro prism ring. It is very bright and *snaps* into focus nicely. He also straightened a bent foot, secured the tripod mount plate, and replaced one of the strap-holders. Total cost for the work was over $300 USD not counting the Maxwell screen (which go for $275 plus installation fee).

The following of my photos were taken by me with this exact camera:

While not MINT it is in excellent condition with only a few minor areas of wear and use (see all photos) but barely any tarnishing at all and all chrome nice and shiny The lenses are perfect, coating flawless, aperture blades smooth and clean, all shutter speeds work however 1/2 second and 1 sec does hang just a bit and are about 1/3rd to 2/3rd stop slow (tested using Shutter-Speed from Lukas Fritz' iPhone app). Shooting B&W film primarily and often either on a tripod shooting 3-5 seconds or hand-held over 1/125 - 1/250th I have not had any issues. However due to the slow 1/2 and 1 second speeds I'm knocking $100 off my price to go towards that (however you can likely use for years as-is). The meter does react to light and seems fairly accurate in daylight but I rarely relied on it so cannot 100% attest to it's full accuracy in all lighting conditions.

Price: $825 USD plus $25 shipping cost. CONUS only (sorry for non-US people but I just don't have time to wait in line at the Post Office at this time of year)

I have been an APUG member since January 2003 buying and selling many times here, and have 100% positive feedback on eBay under rolleirich815 since 1999.

As a fellow Rolleiflex fan , and somebody who has been around the block a few times on dishonestly described Rolleis that then needed work, I just wanted to say that I really appreciated and enjoyed reading such an honest ad for a good clean, straight one from a decent, solid seller. Condition looks great, would be 'Ebay mint +' LOL.

Looks and sounds like somebody will get a good deal and actually be able to receive it and use it straight away without the disappointment that can so often hamper buying one from 'less reputable types'. Good luck with the sale, I would be tempted myself but I have too many of them.

Thanks, I appreciate the props, especially from a fellow Rolleiflex fan. I have a lot of these babies including the tele- and -wide. I always bought and set them up as if I'd never sell! Recently I realized I don't use them ALL nearly enough so at least one needs to be out there being used more. I tend to use my 2.8 ones more for some reason though the lighter-weight 3.5 versions are just good, some think better.

Bump and holiday price drop to $750 until December 15th. If it doesn't sell I'll likely keep it. Just too good with that Planar and that Maxwell screen. I've got to stop looking at the photos I made with this camera or I just might pull it...

Arrrrgghhh I wish I had 750. I'm TLR shopping with $300 to surprise my fiancée for Christmas, was looking at rolleicords and autocords because a working Rolleiflex seems justifiably out of this poor man's reach.

Wow...what a fantastic camera.

I have never shot with a Rolleiflex, but am curious to know how the performance wide open is.

Thanks.

Avi

Is your camera still available? I am interested...I joined just to respond to your classified so you may have to walk me through the process of connecting with you.

Thanks, Sally

I'm awaiting to hear from Sally above, have another person interested and another outside the US who may arrange for a friend to receive the camera for him in the US but no solid purchase yet. Will be raising my price back up before the weekend so anyone with serious interest ready to pull the trigger please contact me.

I had one of these once and in a time of budgetary restraint, was forced to let it go. I rue that day.

Wow, frankly I'm amazed it took as long as it did to sell, congrats on the sale...I mean that sincerely to BOTH parties!
