Hi all ... Rodinal adonal RO9 ... whatever. Where can an Aussie get his hands on some? ... I've tried locally (Vanbar, Total Photo etc) ... no luck. Searched the web with various "issues". No luck at all ... > Any suggestions?

Buy it from freestyle and ship overseas or mix ur own???
 
I have had the same problem. Used to get it from Les Porter in Sydney without a problem, now he tells me that he can't get it. No use trying Freestyle, done that....ground shipping only :sad:
 
I bought about 15x 500ml bottles (in a moment of madness) when it started to disappear a few years ago, and I'm about half way through. I'm glad I did, and the stuff lasts forever... But I seem to be going through the stuff quicker these days, so there will come a time when I'll need to restock. I'm thinking, if Vanbar does manage to get its supplier issues sorted (as Lachie said was happening from another thread), we should all really stock up whilst Rodinal exists... I've done the same thing with Plus-X in 120 - even when I run out, I'll have "eased" myself slowly into the knowledge that it's gone.

You'll have to import it yourself, as I do my Prescycol EF, but you could have a look on the 'bay at this - Item 260740646665
Mail from the UK is pretty expensive but if this guy is right and he can supply, then maybe a collaborative order with others might make it feasible.

Also, Silverprint in London list it on their website, as well as Studional which is Rodinal "S" or Special.

Vanbar (Melbourne and I think Sydney) have Adox Adonal which is supposed to be the same as one of the many variants of Agfa Rodinal. (I say this because Rodinal did get reformulated over the years, presumably for manufacturing convenience.)
 
Yeah I bought a 500ml bottle from m i c h a e l @ a p f e l dot d e.
All up close to $50 but better than not having it at all.

How recently did you buy any from Vanbar, John? I was in Vanbar in Carlton about 5 weeks ago and they said "come back in two months".

Lachie from Vanbar only last week went into some detail about their supply problems in the thread titled "Vanbar and raw chemistry - no longer" (sorry, I tried to put in the url but the message editor kept on truncating it)

I really wish you were right, but at the moment it seems like we have to wait patiently.

To others who have suggested buying from overseas, I have investigated that option and it seems that most overseas suppliers will not, or are not allowed to ship liquid chemicals by air. I think it is because airlines refuse to handle potentially corrosive liquids (fair enough). Shipping (literally, by sea) is not a practical option for consumers in Oz because it takes such a lo-o-o-o-o-ong time.
 
Thanks folks for the responses so far ... All of the OS suppliers that I have investigated will either not "ship" it by air or have a fairly hefty minimum order value. My local supplier in Adelaide can't get it. Vanbar have it listed on their web site (no mention that it is actually out of stock). So I happily provided my credit card details via their online shopping system and ordered a 500ml bottle ... silly me ...
 
you can make it yourself in parodinal form: you just need acetaminophen (paracetamol) tabs, sodium sulphite and sodium hidroxide, the formula is on the web just search it, it´s quite easy to make and that way you will get all the rodinal you need. The results in case of doubt are the same, i´ve tested...
 
OR you could try the Gainer EZ-Rodinal.

p-aminophenol (not the HCl salt) is available at Merck (Melbourne) and as dev agents go, is relatively cheap.
 
$50 for .5L in AU? That's crazy money. Google around for Parodinal. It seems a bit less complicated that making muffins and I've seen some great work done with it. Could be a cottage industry for you.
 
I mix up parodinal with potassium salts if you're interested. But I'm in Melb.
 
Isn't that "Rodinal Special" aka Studinol and not classic Rodinal?
