No he did. I got into a big argument with him about it on RFF, he was defending white supremacists saying he knows many and how they are good family people etc.
He then was pushing white supremacy propaganda and it's why I am no longer on RFF. The owner of RFF left his posts up for several weeks, after being made aware of them, but gave me a temporary ban for criticizing the Pixii digital camera - I guess because he was planning on trying to sell it.

Anyway, Petronio is a hate filled racist and so good riddance.

I remember that thread. Is that the one that started over my Downtown Portland Saturday morning photos of the remains of the previous nights protest?

I'm all for provocative and edgy art (and I have no idea what this photographer does, and have never seen any of his work), but those stupid stickers being placed on a building that wasn't his would seem to be a harassment and criminal act.

If someone wishes to express their views, wacky or not, they need to do it on their own, not on someone else's property......unless their name is Bansky.

Well you might just have given the reason why so many people are sucked into hate groups in the second sentence so it may not be that difficult to understand the "why"

"misfortunes" ie loss of a job, loss of identity etc. No politics needed here, but we know how these things go. Traveling across the US from state to state the "villian" changes. The internet is a powerful tool.

Ah, so he may have left of his own accord in say 2006/ early 2007 under the name Frank Petronio and then came back under another name. He was then banned and hasn't either attempted a return or has attempted a return but was spotted and refused?

"The game's afoot, Watson" as Frank Drebbin would say

That was a regular game of his- get banned, come back with a new identity, and in short order reveal himself through his postings, thus getting re-banned. Not just here but on other forums too. At this point, I don't really care WHY he became an obnoxious jerk - he's had plenty of time as a mature adult to grow out of it, and if the charges against him are true, he's not only not grown out of it, but gotten worse.

Thanks. I was just trying out of curiosity about this person to get to the bottom of the behaviour that got him banned and what his modus operandi was on APUG. It appears from what you say that he was originally banned here then came back with a new identity but his postings revealed who he was and he was re-banned

I think you are the first to make his modus operandi on APUG clear

Typically someone that causes fights and insult people repeatedly would get banded. Some of those would come back again but there are ways to still identify them and remove them if it became necessary.

Possibly, it's been a while. One thing that really disappointed me was that there were a lot of RFF members who said that Petronio should be allowed to voice his opinion.
So, while they 'may' not have condoned it openly, he should have a platform for it on that site.
That's when I was done.

Italics added by me.
I'm sure that wasn't the word you intended to use, but I like it.
Just like migratory birds that we wish to track, it would be handy (in this moderator's opinion) to be able to "band" problematic and disruptive posters, so that when they fly in again, we can easily identify them.
Rude, argumentative and disruptive forum members have a huge and oversized effect on the environment within a website. Like the proverbial "car crash" there is a fascination in discovering that behaviors that caused concern here were of similar ilk to other behaviors in other environments.
On the subject of bans, it is probably best not to leap to conclusions about posts you can find. There may have been others that are long gone.

I haven’t been on it for quite a while but I appreciate the moderators here for taking action early. Plus, there’s a better sense of humor here.

Frank certainly has a unique talent. Even in abstentia he can cause controversy.

There was a knowledgeable two letter troll that started fighting and insulting others on the Hasselblad.Info and after many warnings got booted from there. He then came here and started fighting with and insulting PE and many others after a while. I pointed out to him that he had had the same fights at Hasselblad.Info and that he had gotten booted off. He posted that I had cast dispersions on him. He did not specify whether they were chromatic or edge dispersions. In few days he burst out with many post attacking and insulting an number of people. The next day, he was banned by APUG. One can be knowledgeable and helpful, but if that same person starts causing disruption on a monitored website, they may get removed after some number of warnings. No one, other than the owner of a website is indispensable.

And on that perceptive note, I think we shall close this thread.
