I read somewhere that the Persians deliberately weave a defect someplace in each of their Persian rugs under the Islam belief that only God is perfect. If I got this somewhat wrong, well, I'm not perfect. 😔

There's an old hotel in Denver called the Brown Palace. I worked there as a hotel dick late 1990's. Open since 1893, IIRC. Hosted every president until I think, GW. They have an actual historian and a room on the roof that used to visit during the night shift.

This was one of the first, if not the first, atrium style hotels. Eight floors around an open, uh, atrium. All of the railings had ornate bronze screens. For exactly the reason you ascribe, two were upside down. Because only god make perfection.
