Does anyone know how ti simulatefog in a scene in a photoshop? I looked online but didn't find anything con vincing.
:wondering:

never mind. I figured it out;white ,solid color layerat 50||%opacity,normal blend with a gradient mskworked fine and looks realistic.worked in PS and PSE11. I think I finally understand layers and masks; only has been 12 years after getting into Photo shop. this software needs a PhD to master.

I can agree with that 100%. I have taken two college classes that supposedly gave me a strong base in CSxx but still feel like a complete novice. I didn't think I was a dummy until I started playing around with this software.

I don't use PS, but the concept is the same. Try duplicating your base. decreasing saturation by about 80 percent and increasing lightness by about 70. Add a slightly visible noise layer, then merge the noise layer with your main duplicate. Use your gradient mask layer to create the coverage you desire. As an added step, dodge or burn your mask to give the final appearance of fog's randomness.

These aren't great, but they show the results of the above.

Ralph,

The Martin Evening book that I have is PhotoShop CS for Photographers. The one I referenced to I believe is his latest. Although he doesn't describe producing a fog in the edition I have, the book contains a wealth of information along with excellent illustrations of the techniques he describes. I thought it would be of interest to you since it is not unlike your book which I also keep handy and reread as time permits.

I have also made fog as you did (above) and added slight grain to the fog layer to make it appear as realistic as I could.
