I have a vintage 360mm Tele Xenar on a Linhof Tech.III and am having trouble trying to fit thd mount filters & lens shade to it. Every bit of info I have been able to find, and measuring with a metric ruler would indicate a 67mm, but that size will not thread into my lens, it is too small. Does anyone out there have any advice or knowledge on this particular lens? It has been suggested to me that the next filter size up would be a 72mm, and while that is what is listed today, the outside of the lens barrel doesn't seem to be that big.

Mine is 67mm. Are you sure the threads aren't damaged? If they are, you might consider using the Linhof 70mm shade and filter holder, which clamps onto the outside of the lens, but then you've got to buy the filters for it. You can often find them on eBay with a number of filters included, and there are adapters for 60mm, 51mm, and 42mm outside diameter lenses, which covers most of the modern standard sizes.

Dave, thanks for the info on the Linhof 70mm shade, I'm unfamiliar with it. The 67mm filter I tried has "wiggle room" when placed on the front of the lens, doesn't appear to touch anything. My lens probably dates to the early '50's and is mounted in a Compound shutter. Is your's the same? There are a number of slip on options for filters including some that use gel filters, but those are easily scratched. I also was hoping to use a n aluminum shade I got with the camera made by ENTECO but w/out the adapter needed to attach to the lens. That shade is of the old "series" type, possibly a series viii, but I have never used one bigger than series vii, so am not sure of the exact size. Oh well, it isn't unusual for me to come up with some odball equipment that doesn't conform to present day standards.

Steve & Campbell,
Thanks for your replies. The serial #2577021 is on my lens, apparently a bit older than yours. I had not found that particular websight, but have looked at it know and have sent an e-mail to the distributer listed there asking them about my problem. I am not very good with computers and have not had much luck finding things on my own. I really, really appreciate folks like you pointing me in the right direction. Apparently my typing leaves some to be desired, also. Thanks again.

Mine (SN: 8447791 in Compound) is 67mm too, so not much help there....

The threads on mine were a bit off (the rim had been dinged at some point and was not 100% circular) and my B+W filters would not fit. I found that I could fit a cheapo filter so I dismantled a cheap UV filter, removing the glass and screwed the remaining ring on to the lens. Now my good filters screw happily into the cheap ones threads...

The direct link to the Tele Xenar 360 info is: http://www.schneideroptics.com/info...e_format_lenses/tele-xenar/data/5,5-360mm.htm but as you will see, it says M 67 X 0.75 for the filter as seems to be the case with everyone else...

Good luck, Bob.
