I gave to the cause
of slide film resurrected,
perhaps a fogged dream.
The above gives proof.
A poet? Certainly not.
A dreamer? Always.
Ok, that's the best I got. Two Haiku's in one message. I probably haven't written a Haiku since the 4th grade.
This is now a kodak vs Ferrania thread... Ugh...
Dan (PKM25) is right, this place has less and less hope for film every day, though I disagree about the RF forum that's worse than here, but I do agree that LF Forum is better than here, I won't even post new topics here because I get trolled and attacked. I could be sharing my new 8x10 Saltzman restoration with everyone and contribute to the knowledge base here, but it's filled with mesn and and angry people who just like to poke others with sticks and then complain when the person pushes them back for being attacked.
The hope for film will be in the sharing, but if people get scared off by "the good ole boys" who protect "their own" instead of cutting out the trouble makers, then there is no hope.
Stop the hate of kodak
Stop the yammering on of negativity, and share your film work, images are contagious but only if others can see them. And they should be GOOD not crap (But that's another story).
[...]
Well that was my rant for the day.
Viva FILMferrania!
Yes i agree, lets move on now. Ive said what ive had to say and dont need to say it again.Kodak no longer speaks for the future of the industry. This is a thread about Film Ferrania and all of the really cool stuff they are doing to try to save color film for the long-term, starting with transparency film. It's a gargantuan challenge. But Ferrania is willing to climb into the arena and tackle that challenge, with no guarantees of success. Kodak isn't.
Even more cool, Ferrania themselves have briefly shown up on APUG. Even if they never make another post, they weren't afraid to stop by and say thanks for our support. That tells me a lot.
So how about we just stop talking about Kodak entirely? That would fix the negativity problem. I mean, if the current topic in this thread has everyone really excited about Ferrania's attempt to resurrect an E-6 film for us all, then Kodak is totally irrelevant to that topic anyway, right?
Therefore I might propose that from now on we just keep the focus on the "man in the arena who strives" and forget about Kodak. No need to bash them regarding film at all. Not anymore...
I see $277,204 from 4,875 and still rising with exactly 12 days to go, with eight new rolls of E-6 film thus assured to be heading my way at some point. I'm smiling. How about you?
Go Ferrania.
Ken
All I can say is that Film Ferrania has me really excited about the future of film. I knew 3 years ago that a "right sized" producer would appear to supply the market. I had just assumed it would be the drastically shrunken business successor to EK; as it happened, Kodak Alaris. That isn't to be, but these guys seem to be doing way too many things right to fail.
Dan, you are always welcome in Rochester. Our meeting and lunch at GEH when you last visited was very pleasant and we will do all we can to make your next visit a pleasure for all as well. And, no Kodak bashing! Right?
This thread, and this forum cannot get it in their heads that complaints about most anything here does little, but if you write to the company concerned or write to their media pages, you might accomplish something. Try it.
PE
Unlike Apollo 13, I realize that failure is always an option. But while acknowledging that reality, I'm really excited as well. If these guys can pull this off I'll be dancing in the streets.
Ken
It really all depends on which company's definition of "a lot" is in play, doesn't it?
Ken
only $5K to go before the 300K mark is reached!
Yeah, but people also keep canceling their pledges. Just this moment I watched as the Backers count dropped by 1 and the dollar amount dropped by $35.
Kinda' like trying to run up the down escalator stairs...
Ken
I hope they make the rest of their film available afterwards for sale, as there is still plenty left.
Without sounding too cynical, maybe that's why people keep cancelling pledges?
Why should someone pay $20 a roll for a project that's going to happen, when afterwards they can buy the leftovers online for 1/4 of that?
Of course there are the other rewards, the stickers, the numbered rolls and collector boxes, and just the warm-fuzzy feelings that you get from helping (somewhere in one of them is why I'm keeping my money in their pockets).
I'm remembering all of that Game Theory that I studied in my Economics degree, it may suit one person to pull out and buy film cheaper later, but if everyone does it then there's suddenly no project and noone gets anything. Maybe Ferrania should come out and nix the idea that there will be surplus available later for cheaper, or offer more 'kickstarter only' rewards or something?
Even in the first week they reached over 100k with little film rewards taken.
I suppose the conclusion from that could be that people want film to survive but not necessarily E6.
I know there are very vocal E6 supporters but those figures don't look as good for that niche which may mean the group needs to move on to a larger market. seems there is little point scaling up E6 if they have film left, or is it so price sensitive?
Its vital to keep E6 or some other reversal film alive for cine film...
So where are they?
3 rolls S8 105/400
One of them is here. One of 105, it seems.
E6 sales are still in free fall.
Do you have the real numbers? No, you don't have.
Only Fujifilm has the numbers. And they don't have published any data.
Some people here on apug are telling that, but no one of this group has any reliable data.
Its the same people who are saying there is a availability problem with E6 chemistry (which is completely wrong).
Unfortunately some people here want E6 to die.
They want to discourage photographers to use E6 films.
They are happy when this very important part of the photographic culture is destroyed.
Needless to say I don't understand this behaviour........even if someone is not using it: No one, absolutely no one will have any benefit if E6 is dead!
But we all will benefit if it stays alive.
As we all benefit that the other film types stay alive.
Film photography works as a whole, as a system. A system of variety and creative choices.
And not if only tiny fractions remain.
Best regards,
Henning
