FILM Ferrania to announce new product

I see that their are already some sample Photos on the Ferrania Facebook Page.

I wonder if the new product was inspired by hearing folks referring to P30 as an Orthochromatic film, rather than Orthopanchromematic....

Reading between the lines this seems like a different Sensitizing formula on the Same basic film recipe, which may be of great interest for Photography Teachers. The information now on the web site metions that the Development should be similar to P30 so the chance to do "Mix and Match" experiments is quite high.

also the Package shown is moving away from the 3M package inspired design that was used when P30 Launched. The little "F" shaped Man is much more visible on the new pack. (And is on the Edge print of the bar code P30)

I was hoping for them to have had their 120 Packaging line up and running,but I guess that all things take time.

I want to buy a few rolls of this Ortho 50, but none of the stores they recommend, have any on their websites. It would be interesting to see how Ortho 50 compares with P30, and of course other ortho films like Ilford's.

The sepia-toned are the output directly from the Kodak Pakon F135, the others are inverted by me.

Box speed, EI 50 in a Nikon F6, various lenses, color charts metered with an incident meter - I volunteered my time and developers to assist in recipe validation. I'm hoping to develop a roll in D96 next.

I see on their FB page that it will be available at "your favourite shop" by late April... I had better find "my favourite shop" then

they do say that it is available in Italy Now, and elsewhere later in April. I guess that they don't have a large distribution organization. They still don't show an official dealer in Canada for P30.

These are very good! I'm impressed with how clean the negatives are, free from emulsion defects, etc. The black tulip is just awesome.

they released the "quarter pounder with cheese" in 2015

and in 2023 they release "the quarter pounder without cheese"

The main UK stockist is Analogue Wonderland, who aren't my favourite but I have bought from them. Reliable shop with great packaging and they really know how to appeal to the youngsters coming into film. What doesn't sit well with me is the way they advertise the myriad films that we know to be either Aviphot or Kentmere in disguise all as something different and special. Funds are a bit tight and I have all the film I need for the coming year but I might just buy a roll if I am also buying something else. THat said, I have a roll of Ilford Ortho 80 to use up so no promises. I still have some P30 from my 2021 order too.

Nope I haven't done laboratory tests. And while I fully respect them and know that in theory they should accurately inform me what to expect when I take photographs with a film....sometimes the act of taking photographs seems to end up different to the more "clinical" testing of a film. No idea why, and absolutely not taking anything away from those who have tested this and other films. In my usage experience P30 isn't an orthochromatic film. I would say it's orthopanchromatic in that it's clearly less sensitive to the reds than the blues. But Ilford Ortho 80 and Jason Lane's glass plates are more so. Perhaps I should try photographing a Union Jack flag with it? Or the US flag.

Given that hype is one thing Film Ferrania aren't known for, I'd say they are telling the truth about this being different to P30. But it may not be very different. Perhaps a minor tweak makes a film that is "very" ortho?

There are a few photos now on social media taken with the new Orto film. The cat in front of the Baldwin organ and the padlock are beautiful.

just got a couple rolls, it is priced at Eur 11.50.
saw many boxes just delivered to my nearby retailer.
no expiry date, a bar code instead.

Thank you - I will have some fun with this film. The negatives needed little aside from dust and minor cropping as I have the Pakon set up for non-aggressive framing.

Andrew, well supporters of Ferrania were hoping that production would at last be ramped up but Ferrania must be really exceeding its own targets if it has enough film to stock Colquitlam donut shops as well

Scott, in the lower chart can you tell me which colours the following dark squares are@

1st column top square ; 3rd col 3rd square down ; 4th col top square; 6th col bottom square

Finally which are the blue squares if not in any of my above co-ordinates
