Can you say who this person is. He would appear to be someone important to Ferrania for it to pick up a phone /send an e-mail to tell him that it is back in stock. Does he say who has the stock?

It looks as if he had never tried the film before Ferrania sent him 2 rolls and it is from those 2 rolls that he is hooked - in spades as the saying goes😄 So yes however they found him he seems to have been a good choice to send the film to and entrust Ferrania's communication about the film being back in stock and now produced entirely "in house"

Maybe Ferrania believes he is a better vehicle for its announcements than Photrio? He is certainly a salesman for it 😄

The picture of his wife looks vaguely familiar. Is this the figital revolution person?.

Thanks

Yes he is. Stephen Schaub has been around for quite some time; things do not start with YouTube

I am not his spoke person, neither can I talk on his behalf but it might simply be Dave Bias enjoying his work and sending him few rolls.

Apparently not. After years of no film, you can now buy P30 at Freestyle, the FPP store, and others.

Ferrania sent him a "couple of rolls" and he tried it in a ton of developers.

The gentlemen in the video said it's a "box speed film". "I got box speed out of all of them (developers)"... What makes a film a box speed film? Aren't all films? I shot this film at box speed and the shadows were empty and lifeless. I got best results at EI 20, with Xtol-R. It is indeed a film with a unique look, though (tonally speaking). I'm happy to hear that this film is back. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of 120...and hopefully, sheet film to follow!

True, I was able to find some Adox Lupex contact paper as well. I bought 2 rolls of the P30, not really sure why. Yea, another apparent resurrection 🙂

Fomapan 200 and 400 films certainly aren't unless (maybe) you're using Microphen. Fomapan 100 is not quite there in Rodinal but I'm happy with EI100 for Xtol.

HP5+ is the opposite, it feels that ISO400 is a conservative rating for it.

My testing of P30 resulted in quite different exposure and development parameters vs anyone else I ever read about. I rate it at EI32 and develop in D-96 at 1:1 to get negatives I'm pleased with.

That QR code, specific to the roll you buy, is a real good idea. Hope it catches on with other manufacturers.

For those who might wish to gain further information about Ferrania P30 you can do 2 things: Check out the very long thread here on Photrio and have a look at Greg Davis' film comparison video on P30 shown on "The Naked Photographer" YouTube website

Based on all the evidence I have seen there appears to be reasonable doubt about its ability to achieve its box speed

I've never understood why Fomapan 200 (or Arista Edu Ultra 200) has "200" in the name. It doesn't approach EI 200 in any developer I've ever tried and barely approaches 100 in most. It looks nice at 64 in PMK though. I've never tried Foma 100, but is it the same speed as the 200, or is it a 50 speed film?

I shoot a lot of Foma 100 sheet film and, based on testing, rate it at EI 80.

Foma is compliant with ISO 9001 quality standards, not sure that has anything to do with how they rate speed of film. From a manufacturing standpoint ISO 9001 means that the company needs to be able show their products meet a global standard.

Seems that Foma films need a quite active developer and low dilutions to get closer to box speed, things like Rodinal 1+25 or HC-110 dilution B. In any case, I have used Foma 100 exposed to ISO 80 and developed in Rodinal 1+50 to with pleasing results.

ISO 9001 is about management procedures. Nothing to do with the verifiable specifications of the product.

I was lurking their website and it seems they managed to get the 135 finishing line working, which is quite a feat! I hope now they will publish full documentation for their film  in any case I'm quite happy to see they are still around, i still hope in super8 p30...

I don't understand the potential benefit of the QR code.
The info I can think of that I would care about (batch #/expiry date) could/should be printed on the box. I certainly don't hope I have to scan a QR code to get this basic information.

I'd be quite happy if they would just have the courtesy to communicate direct with their Kickstarter supporters, rather than having to get any information on progress second-hand ?

(I'm not begging for any Rewards at this stage, long since forgotten that, but it surely wouldn't taker any great feat for them to offer the opportunity to buy some film ? )

Mods, there is a P30 Production thread running that now has a news update from Ferrania that gives useful information

It might be sensible to merge?
