Sheesh I was in Rome and was hoping to snitch a couple rolls, but it is already sold out in the couple shops I could visit!

I found a comparison between P30 and P30 alpha (in italian), it seems the finished product was tweaked and should be more robust. I liked P30 a lot, but I had experienced great differences batch-to-batch, I hope all this is solved now.
I shot and developed my first roll of the new production, and so far it looks pretty good. I haven't printed or scanned but the roll drying in my bathroom looks a little bit lighter that the roll of Acros I developed just before it with Xtol. Shot at 80 and developed in D76 for 7 minutes.
Here's one from the non-alpha P30 that I made this week, just taking random test images on an overcast day. The histograms show the raw scan and the adjustment I made to increase contrast.
T Max developer 1:6 @ 24C for 5 minutes. (That equates to Ferrania's best practices minus 30% time in the developer.) The negative was exposed at iso 50.

The time should be 7 minutes at 80ASA, but these still look great. I never tested shooting at EI 50 and TMAX Dev. I guess I should.

Yes I should have mentioned that detail. I exposed one roll bracketing iso 80 and iso 50. Then I cut the roll in half and developed one half at 7 minutes (Ferrania's recommendation for iso 80) and the other half at 5 minutes (my guess for iso 50). I figured that the iso 50 images might benefit from shorter developing in the hi-lights.
At any rate each half of the roll had images with good distribution of tones, and each half of the roll also had problem images (lack of shadow or blown hi-lights). I used my in-camera meter, and my normal fairly sloppy metering technique so I think that's my issue. P30 is a good film but it requires careful exposure, and that's on me.![]()
They do look great!
Can I ask you if you had some issues with strange spots or streaks from 3 of us who used it against the alpha. They appear like this photo:
These are not from Photo Flo, or squeegee/wiping (I never do this) and not water spots, they are in the emulsion.
I just checked and my negatives do not show that problem anywhere.
Having waited 5 years as a Kickstarter contributor, it would be nice to be able to actually BUY some film, ANY film, from Ferrania. I'm not expecting any freebies (though it would have been nice to get some reward), I'm perfectly prepared to pay the retail price, but it just seems that Ferrania continue to ignore the contributors. Come on, guys, you wouldn't be here without us !!!
All backers were offered the chance to covert their rewards from E6 colour film into P30 Alpha.
Knowing what they've been through I'm happy they're making P30 again. I had the chance to use my darkroom and enlarger on Monday, first time in three years, and revisited my P30 alpha negatives. It's very nice stuff.Presumably the non-alpha will be more consistent and improved in some regards - though the two alpha rolls I had were both excellent. I did find 50ASA was more realistic, processing in ID-11 stock.

I decided against that, as, so far as I recall, the inference was that the E6 production was not likely to be long delayed. Obviously this was incorrect.
My point is that, even as a backer, I can't now BUY P30, or ANY other film from Ferrania.
Why can you not buy any P30? I ordered some and currently using it.
Just wanted to try one, website says USA / Canada only. Anyone know why?Sales are currently limited to US, Canada, and Italy from what I've read. I don't know where railwayman lives, but that is the most likely answer.
Whether or not you can get film has a lot more to do with the distribution resources available than it has to do with the manufacturer's preferences.Just wanted to try one, website says USA / Canada only. Anyone know why?
What kind of sense does this make for a film produced in Italy? Unless it is not in house production and another re-badge ???
It really stinks to me to have such a restriction, illogical. Otherwise they would have a reason posted on their website.
