When my father gave up his darkroom, with his blessing I took all the gear he had that I was interested in (almost all of it: i recognized the moment as the passing forever of good times we had spent in the dark, not so much for the quality of our work ((mediocre at best, probably and honestly)) but for the intimacy of a project shared. Among the gear I wound up with was a kit 4x5 camera that he had built, and several film holders. After too many years away from the hobby? sport? craft? avocation? of film photography, I have recently begun shooting and developing film again, and want to use the 4x5.

But first: I have 2 loaded film holders from probably the late 1990s. The film is Tri-X. I think some of the film is exposed: I wrote exposure information on a masking tape strip on the holders. The handwriting is mine, but I never used that view camera without my father, and I don't remember ever setting the thing up for a shot on my own--these shots represent a collaborative effort. I want to develop these sheets, and have a tank and a dark enough room. My question: I have rodinal, and am comfortable using it. I will have HC 110 on Friday, but have never used it before. The film is Tri-X 320, exposed around 1998, I think, probable expiration date around the same time. I would welcome any opinions on how I should handle this film, given the developers I have. TIA

hi

great to hear of your adventure !
some people swear by hc110 because it
prevents fog ( i have never used it so i can't comment )
so you might look at threads or look up info for expired film...
but that is 1/2 your problem because the film is already exposed..
maybe look for threads that have to do with "found film" and see what theysay ?
me personally ? i would use either dektol or ansco 130 dilute 1:6 and process the film for about 7 or 8
minutes. yeah i know they are print developers, but they work swimmingly as film developers,
and even better if the film is 4x5/large format ! ive been using ansco130 or its cousin off and on since the 90s...
btw glycin ( in ansco 130 ) likes about 72 degrees, dektol 68..
have fun!
