A new page at my web site where you can have a look at what these 3 antique portrait lenses and a Kodak 2D can do.

About a 5 minute read. Let me hear what you think please.

That Cooke's definitely a keeper.

Glen and Rachelle are better at modeling than you are!

I agree that the Cooke makes some amazing images. I need to get me one of them!

Shots 3 and 4 are simply wonderful. I'm really glad you're doing this. My sole reason for getting into LF was portraits. Landscapes are nice (I've seen some beauties), but when you get it right, the portrait will take my breath away.

Don't get me wrong I really do like landscapes

Wow is that cooke nice! Nice car too.

Ok, Jim's setting us up...the cooke will be for sale soon...
and I'd be interested...

OTOH, how much for the Ford??

Very nice portraits Jim.

I agree, the Cooke is pretty amazing looking. But screw the lenses. When I come out your way I am going to steal that car!!!! Your friends Ford is very, very cool.

Oops, after looking again I have decided the Cooke lens really sucks rotten eggs. I think you need to put theat one up for sale. You would be far better off without it. Why don't you send it to me and I will give a good, long evaluation.

Yeah, no kidding. They're both about 100 times easier to look at in the first place

And Rita's going to leave 8 inches in HELL. :D:D:D

Nice Jim, really nice,

That self portrait raises some questions.....where'd ya get those shoes?

An aquaintence of mine misplaced an identical pair a bit south of you.... at the Lida turn off.....

by the way my silky lens arrived today .. thanks

Jim

Stop it. Some of us have been trying to keep this stuff secret for years.

It really is better when folks buy all the expensive new junk thinking it's special.

Of course, having a sensibility for friendship and gentle light is important too.

But enough is enough.

.

Better send me that Woolly Versar before you cut yourself...

Great stuff Jim,

I suspect the light and photographer had more to do with it than the lenses...

Jim:

Which Cooke lens did you use for your granddaughter's portrait?

Taylor, Taylor, Hobson "Cooke" Series IIb Portrellic 12 3/4" f4.5. At f8 for that with diffusion controller set at '3'.

A vote for the 14" f4.5 Heliar. I'm still learning but it does seem that good fortune smiled in that particular picture. It's also my favorite although of the group, the one of Rachelle is also a definite stand out. Thanks all for the kind encouragements.

When you are ready to sell, give me a holler on the Heliar! All the image look great, but I choose the Heliar even over the TTH&C

Oh, yeah, ruin my chances. No PM to Jim stating, "Hey, no one likes the Heliar, why not sell it to me?" now!

Matt

Jim, that's excellent work!
These portraits are simply wonderful. The one I like the most is Rachelle - perfect expression
I always enjoy seeing your photos - you're an inspiration
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!

Denis

Come guys, let Jim keep a few lenses, he obviously knows what to do with them. Hope ya don't mind Jim but I hijacked the pics to study, they are fantastic! (oh, the one of you wth the great shoes is going on the Jim Galli fan club tee-shirt  )

For all you Heliar fans, here's something to make you drool. BTW, these are big, big, lenses, both in size and weight.

Nice stuff, Steve. The 360 in my Avatar isn't a Universal, but is still one of my favorite lenses.
