i think it is hard for some people to understand and execute because a lot of people don't know how to relate
to a nude human body other than as a sexual object ... so they see a nude that way.
maybe they also see it as a "naked" body, which means vulnerable / unprotected &c.
and a MALE nude .. forget about it ... a lot of humans are unsure of their sexuality ...

Prolly there are as many lines between those concepts as viewers. As someone said, over the entrance of each gallery it should be written "you don't have to like everything".

As for these images – which I haven't seen – controversy should have been handled privately with moderators.

here: I'll make it REAL SIMPLE for you:

it's PORN if I think it's porn.

it's NOT PORN if I don't think it's porn.

so there you have it---ask the person that matters, me, and I'll render my decision.

OH....but my decisions are NOT final--just because I deem it porn or not porn at one particular time does not mean I may not change my mind in the future....OH...and change it yet again.

Sorry folks, but that's what you get when you want to leave it up to other people to tell you how to think.

This is not about art or not art. This forum is not a restricted 18+ forum, and it would be great if teenagers could discover the wonder that is film. Maybe a restricted forum is needed, or maybe just the many other gallery options are better suited for more challenging material, sex related or not!

Why is it that this forum or any other on the internet is supposed to protect people against seing an image showing a nude human being? If minor its your parents duty to advice you in the use of the internet and if your an adult you are responsible for your own actions. If you don't like seing nudes don't click on the thumpnails, if you don't want your kids to see nudes explain it to them and superwise them in their use of the www. I don't see why seing a nude male or female body can be harmfull certainly not when pics of death, destruction and suffering is littering the place. I find it more disturbing to see images of people blown to pieces than if I should stumple upon one of people having sex and i certainly don't want my kids to see the horrors of war and killing just yet but somehow its just what is brought to us by the truckload in primetime.

There was a point at which APUG tried to figure out a way to do just exactly that, but there was no practical way to separate the galleries or mark individual images as "NSFW" or some such. And really no way to keep everyone happy. So it's each users responsibility to view images at their own discretion... including teenagers. And really, there's not a whole lot on APUG that will harm teenagers.

Couldn't disagree more and I think you will find most here will disagree too. If you're coming to APUG, buying a subscription and wandering through the gallery just to look for porn (instead of taking the trouble to Google "playboy"), no amount of restricted sections are going to stop you. While I have 3 kids, including a son hitting puberty pretty hard, there is nothing on APUG I would not let him look through. Maybe I am too liberal but if I could afford it, I also would take him to see Michelangelo's statue of David, or the Birth of Venus by Botticelli - for that matter, I let him read Harry Potter which my mother is still convinced is about witchcraft.

I saw the images, thought they were beautiful and if anything, they made me more interested in how they were made than in the actual subject matter.

I dont neccesarilly disagree with you personally, but, it will get the site banned in internet filters. And not everyone has the line drawn in the same place. Most people here arnt young enough to have pre-teen or early teen children. The "its up to the parents" line is crap. Most parents dont have the IT skills to effectively manage the internet, its a different time than finding a playboy magazine in the bushes.

Then it is the parent's responsibility to learn the IT skills to watch their kids, or pay for monitoring. I don't want some red-neck, gun-toting, Bible thumping Texan telling me what is acceptable for my kids to view any more than I want a latte (with soy milk and sugar free syrup) loving, vegan New York "pass-the-condoms" liberal telling me what my kids should be allowed to watch.

I had them, it is my responsibility to raise them.

It's impossible to ever answer the question, because it really is the person viewing the photograph that needs to feel if the subject is erotic or pornographic, or offensive, or not.

For me the question is mute, I've seen blatant pornographic photographs that were both erotic and artistic and so-called erotic photos totally tacky and non-inspirational.
- is it a good photo? yes/no moving right along.....

This always comes down to the person's own moral standing/double standing. - It tingles, therefore I am...or.....it tingles, so it (and I) must burn and I need to repent my sins before god and my morally correct non-sexual, long gone, parents and grandparents.

It's like the freedom of speech; Who are to decide what's offensive in an opinion? If you allow this, why don't you allow that? Same thing.

And for the record; Galdonfi's work is simply awesome, regardless of the subject matter, really.

And? If nations decide to censor site like this because of nudity is displayed its up to those who govern those countries and if democratic, the voting public. Would you like the leaders of The Arabic Emirates, Iran, China or Pakistan to decide what content is ok for you to watch. Its me alone who decide what sites I or my kids visit

No and thats exactly why you can't generalize or make decisions on behalf of others just like some people let their kids watch movies with questionable content others wouldn't some are ok with nudity and some are not but its their call not APUG's or any othter websites

That no excuse. If you bring kids into this world their wellbeing, safety, health and education is your responsibility not mine and if you are not up to it you better get up to it and seek advice and knowlegde from someone who does have the skills. Consulting the other parents from your kids class is one approach that work well.

Oh, here it comes, "think of the children!" Sorry, i dont buy it. In my opinion parents are responsible for their children. Even if a child stumbled upon access to the gallery (it's subscriber only) the signal to noise ratio for something to abuse ones self to is giant. Do you seriously think some kid is going to self flagellate to a tintype? And if they did, what of it? As you say in a later post, this isn't the era of finding a playboy in the bushes. Hell, I used to use the JC Penney catalogue. It's as old as time, and genuine human behavior that you cant stop. If my son spends his time hitting the APUG gallery I would be mightily impressed, particularly in light of what is available.

All the blather of this sort does simply one thing, it screws up children who then grow into screwed up repressed adults with huge hang ups about their bodies and their sexuality.

Teen agers and children are very interested and curious about anything sexual. They have a sexuality and a curiosity. The idea that children must be "protected" from sex-related material is crap invented by the censor-happy ones. They don't want nudes, or porn, or whatever, and in order to prevent the circulation of this kind of material they use the "protection of children" as an excuse.

Find me ONE teen-ager who wants to be protected from Playboy, or Penthouse, or Hustler. Children don't have a problem with sex. Parents have.

Somewhat OT but related: While I don't agree with your statement, I do have an issue here... but it's definitely not with nudes in the APUG gallery. My issue is with my HOME ISP that is blocking websites. They're CENSORING what sites I can visit. I complain but they never reply to me. They know they are the single viable high-speed option anyone in this rural area has so they force their puritanical censorship on us all. It's either that or they're trying to save bandwidth. Either way, they're controlling and cheated their customers. So one day my ISP may ban APUG as a site that hosts nude photos. But I'd NEVER support their attempts at censorship. Okay... now I've worked myself up and am steaming angry at my ISP.
