$9.99 + $6.99 shipping!? For two!? Seriously!? I can walk into a high street lab, any lab, ask for a bundle of rolls (I don't know what I'd use them for...) and get them free, zero, zilch, nada. From what I know, they end up in landfill, not routinely recycled. Nice bit of opportunistic profiteering which does tend to tarnish eBay a bit by dint of such a silly listing. But I've definitely seen worse things...

How about special custom-made spools ?
I can make them out of aluminium for a couple hundred each, we just need a way to hype them.

I worked really hard for a while trying to figure out how to make cheap 620 spools. I know that if you could just find a refurbishable punch-press that actually made the suckers in the 1950s they could still be cheap enough.

But new tooling was just out of the question.

I've got about two bushels of 35mm film vials. I should be able to make a down payment on a house if I peddle these on feebay.

I bet he saw the price on some metal ones and thought these were the same thing... But I wouldn't even pay $10 a pair for metal ones.

This caught my attention as I purchased one locally as a spare last week: http://tinyurl.com/9n4m2gp
He really has no idea what he is handling ("shutter speed coupling ring"???) or how to cost it.
Often available for $10.00.

okay I couldn't help messaging this guy. here is the conversation thus far:

me: are these vintage or new reproductions? I ask because $9.99 each seems pretty cheap.

seller: the film that was on the spools dated back around 1994-1997 I dont know if you would consider that vintage or not.

me: as far as I know until about 1992 or so they were really well made but
sometime after then they started using cheaper plastic and making them
to less exacting tolerances, so if these are from 1994-1997 then
probably $9.99 apiece is reasonable. darn - thought I could get a
sweet deal  Still, even the newer ones are a bit tough to come by
these days it seems.
