For some time I have been looking for a four-blade easel. As they seem to be pretty expensive I'd like to hear if anybody could advise me.

Thanks

I use a Saunders, and yes it wasn't cheap. You might be able to buy one second hand. I don't think building one would be very practical unless you are a VERY handy guy.

expensive but it depends which size you want. An 11x14 is pretty reasonable and seems plenty available on ebay. 16x20 amd 20x24 are rarer and more expensive.

Donald,
Did you buy new? I know where there are a couple one is used and the other is New. It may be a Beslar. The one with the big knobs.

Lee,
No, I bought mine from the same seller (ebay) that had the enlarger that bought as well. It might as well have been new since the lady attempted to do a rental darkroom in a small town and ultimately found that the population wasn't sufficient. I think that I saved something on the order of half of new. What are they asking for the ones that you know about?

If I remember, it was a consignment and about $175. The new one was about $225. It has been a while but at that place I would bet they have not sold yet.

Thanks to you all for your help. I had a look around Ebay (US) but most sellers are unwilling to ship to Europe and that's where I live. I might try B&H.

clogz, have you tried at ebay.de? While many of the sellers there list the items as "will ship to Germany only", most are willing to ship anywhere in Europe if you ask them nicely.

I guess you're in the Netherlands?

Hello Ole, Good suggestion, I'll have at look at Ebay.de. Another thing with those easel is that I hadn't realised that US paper sizes differ from our metric ones so paper bought here in the Netherlands sometimes won't even fit. Never mind, the chase is half the fun although I have have notices that finding certain photographic supplies are hard to find in this little kingdom below sea level. Is that the same in Norway?

Hans,
Absolutely the same here. Lots of supplies cannot be found, or the local importer closed last year and was bough up by a minilab chain...
Also, there is no "abroad" within easy driving distance; I live on the west coast and it would take me a whole day to get to the Swedish border...

For some reason we get a mix of US/UK and metric sizes here, paper can be 8x10", 18x24cm, 24x30cm, 11x14" and so on...

The sizes are another good argument for buying on ebay.de, I guess.

Hans,

Saunders and Dunco 90/x are the best. They differ in their paper stops and scales - Suanders has inch and Dunco has metric scales. The Saunders' paper stops are better if you switch paper sizes often and are more convenient to unse, IMO.

You will find Dunco easels much more often on ebay.de than Saunders. Saunders is less known in Germany and therefore cheaper to buy second hand. New ones are equally expensive.

I've done that - from the Swedish border through Oslo and Laerdal to Bergen - A beautiful trip, if not exactly the best place for a novice driver. I suppose it could be done in one day ...

Some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery I've ever seen - anywhere. I've seen photographs - posters - advertising Norway, but none have done justice to being there. Not even close.

I have a vivid memory of standing on the deck of the ferry out of Laerdal ... on the fjord ... at twilight.

- And that is a most intersting airport at Bergen. We turned the rental car in there and flew back to Oslo. *Very* interesting take-off.

After some lengthy searches on the web I finally found a used four bladed easel,30x40 centimeters (12x16 inch). A Kaiser Promask. Only € 125.-.

Thanks to everyone that helped with their advice.
