Dollar Store Film

I've heard of people talking about dollar store film, and being that there are a few different dollar stores, what's the name of the store where you can get the .99 cent film?

I have not noticed any in actual Dollar Tree stores or Dollar General stores around Birmingham, but I have not been specifically looking. Maybe I should ...

I haven't found film at Doller Tree stores, but the .99 Cent stores (the ones with the pinkish logo) have film usually. It's 200 ASA film, and I think the brand is Memories or something like that. They also had a few rolls of Samsung branded 200 film that I picked up once, but the rest was that other brand. I actually haven't developed any yet, so I don't know how good it is or what kind of film it actually us.

I got some cheap film down here in Australia. The tins had stick on labels over Fuji, Konica & Lucky containers. But the film inside was no brand. Some spots had like scratches & it was grainy. One role only had 26 shots not 36. At the time I though a great fine for Holga use. Now after, spend your money on some good film like Rollei Maco or Efki.

Tri-X can be had for a little over $3 a roll if you look.

$3 is an arm and a leg? You could go digital and skip the whole messy process film entails.

Yeah, plus if you don't that fancy colorizing film, you can get LegacyPro film from freestyle for about $1.50 per roll.

I picked up a dozen rolls of expired (last Decembers date) Kodak film for free and after I emailed an interest in it (Freecycle) I looked up what "Advantix"meant.
I didn't think that I would be selected to pick it up so did not say anything.Well,she told me it was mine...lol.
I didn't have the heart to tell her that I couldn't use it.Sooo,I have actually 13 rolls because I already had one if anybody is interested.I live in Connecticut.Ron G

It's FROM Fuji, and it's good, but I'm not sure it's totally equivalent to Neopan and Acros. I've had some 400 that was very, very prone to reticulation, and I've been told the emulsion numbers on LegacyPro are somewhat old.

One time I found some film at the Dollar-tree stores that was fuji branded and was very good.
But none of them seem to carry it any more.

The film from the 99 cent stores.. I've had varying results from it, but I think the bad results were from bad processing.
It does tend to be rather grainy for 200 speed film.

At a place such as B&H, Kodak Gold is very affortable and I would recommend trying that. A roll is only a dollar or two...It's worth it.

Sadly, the Dollarama stores in Toronto stopped carrying film over a year ago.

Dollar store film was very useful when trying to diagnose a camera that was scratching film --- it made testing for the scratch cheap and fast. I never actually processed any of it!

I think the 99cent stores with the pink-ish signs are limited to certain regions of the United States. The 200 speed memories film you can get there is made in Japan, which makes me think it's Fuji film. I think it's great for testing out old cameras that you've just bought, and that's my primary use for them.

I recently purchased over 20 rolls of Kodak Ultra-Max 400 film from a dollar store that is not a chain. They also had 3 rolls of Ferrania 200 film that had the Kroger label on it. So check the small non-chain mom and pop dollar stores, they sometimes have film.

As I mentioned, it's good for testing out cameras and it doesn't hurt as much if nothing comes out.

iirc Walgreens had good prices on house-branded film that was labeled fuji on the inside.
Maybe Ill pick up a roll and double-check.

No luck at Walgreens.. $3.99 for generic brand and $5.99+for kodak!
At those prices, its not worth it for anyone anymore.
Sad.

Mail order is going to be the only option soon.

Hear, hear. Kodak Gold is really good stuff. Wish I could find it easier locally.

I am guessing you don't have any CVS/Pharmacy....B&H has great deals on it. I would REALLY like to see Gold in 120 again!!
