does anyone keep a camera...

...in their car...just in case.I'm sure that large format cameras left in the car is not a good idea-or most any valued camera equipment for that matter.Not to mention problems with film getting fogged.But does anyone have a camera they
bring with them "just in case",or if they go by a spot check it out with a point and shoot or,dare I say a digi camera see the result and then go back another
time with their real equipment to make a certain image?If so,what camera do you use-and film for that matter as just a reliable standbye to scope out the location and composition.Holga looks to be coming out with something resmebling a Holga point and shoot camera and I was thinking that may be a good "carry along just in case" camera with some HP5 inside.Anyone else have any thought or equipment they bring along just in case?

I used to keep a Petri 7s in my glove compartment
But last time I used it the shutter was stuck (read blank film)
I have to fix it before it goes back in the car

New York can have some extreme temperatures hot in the car in summer and cold in winter. But in the spring and fall I usually keep my M2 in the car.

Yes....I keep a tripod in the car but, the camera stays with me. Usually, a 35mm SLR in a small cooler type bag intended to be used to carry one's lunch or an Olympus P&S in my pocket. Today, I have an old Pentax SP-1000 loaded with Tri-X. It is sitting on my desk next to me cleverly disguised as...my lunch!

I keep a retina IIa in my bag, and a Yashica electro GSN in the car, usually. I'll swap the latter out with a Canonet 17 at times (though I like to that have more handy rather than leave it all the time in the car), and I'll mix it up with my other retinas or even my Ikonta 520/2.

Always keep a camera around somewhere, anyway.

Not necesarily in the car, but since I photograph my kids so much, I often have a camera loaded up with film sitting on top of the fridge. I probably should keep one in the car, too!

I keep some Nikon slr gear, a tripod and my Speed Graphic with a 135mm and 203 mm lenses 4 or 5 film holders, filters, etc in a couple of cases in the trunk of my car. Never had problems with temperature extremes in Omaha which ranges from -25F to over 100F.

I really like the idea of having my Canonet always in the car 'just in case' but due to extremes in both winter and summer, I'm not sure that it would be such a great idea.

I'm like Suzanne, I usually have a loaded camera close at hand so I can use it quickly.

used to keep a pentax auto 110 ( with 3-4 lenses and 10 or so cartridges of film ) in the car. these days there is usally the yashica t4 in the car ...

I carried an Olympus 35 RC in my briefcase from 1978 until I retired last December. This camera went to work with me every day (past the sign that said that cameras were forbidden), and on every business trip (and there were a lot of those). It also went to church with me every Sunday (except for those occasions when I needed to take the "serious" gear for some photographic project), and on most shopping excursions.

I still have it in a pouch that slips over my belt and rides along when I go to Bunz with the gang on Tuesday morning. It also sometimes goes along for the ride when I am out with the LF gear so that I have something for fast shooting.

My ultimate "just in case"-camera: the good old Olympus XA (loaded with HP5 ofcourse). If it's too hot or too cold to leave it in the car, no problemo: it fits in every pocket!

I always have a camera with me. I usually have a Canon AE1 loaded with T-Max or Neopan 400. I always have it on my shoulder, but when I go in places where cameras are forbidden I remove it to... inside my backpack.

I have an XA that I keep with me and a Yashica Lynx 14. The latter is not so easy to hide, but the lens is fast and sharp.

I shoot strictly large format, and always have it in the car. In fact I never take it out unless I am shooting.

Its fully insured, and well protected for travel. I pull off the side of the road all the time to grab a shot. I wouldnt do it any other way.

Oly 35 RD usually, sometimes a Nikon n70 if I'm really thinking I might take a bunch of shots, or I want to explore a location for more serious shooting. (Then I take my medium and large format cameras for the shoot.)

Minolta 9000

I always have a Minolta 9000 with me, with a 35-70 and 70 -300 Minolta lens. All this is dead cheap now second hand, but great equipment.

I like the Minolta, because it is very manual (no motor, that is), only needs two batteries, has a spot meter, and is completely reliable. It got completely wet last year - all I had to do was to dry it for a day, and it worked again without any problems.
I bought the lenses for about $ 50 each.

I use Foma 100 film - I use bulk film, and I usually cut it so that I have about 20 exposures, to make sure that the film does not stay in there too long.

about 80% of the time I have the Nikon on the seat beside be with the strap over the center console in case of sudden stops....the lens has traditionally been 35 1.4 I recently bought from Christian Olivet another F3 with motor and I keep 105 on that one. They usually go inside with me as in Vegas it gets quite hot inside the car in the summer.

Those are cool gadgets.... I hate to see people walking/driving while they talk it craps all the human communication process, and it's even worse in trade shows/conferences.... but I have to admit that having a camera everywhere maybe worth it.

Polaroid...

I keep a Polaroid EE100 Special loaded with 667 (ASA 3000)... Good for whatever I have to remember to go back & photograph later. I can write on the borders & the fast speed usually works just about anywhere. Not the lightest, but it is instant!
