And/or a way to make a logistics system a little more efficient instead of having a gazillion carriers all driving around the same routes/neighborhoods day after day. Indeed, I see last mile end up with specialized carriers, potentially more localized, and pretty much anyone being able to contract out something to them. That parties like Uber & Doordash jump into the gap makes good sense from this point of view.

? It's not like one van carries for two or three major companies. You still have each last mile firm running its own fleet or individual vehicle. And 'efficiency' is one of those terms that needs to be dug into like any other buzzword. Is it 'efficient' to create a society where a large percent of able workers are constantly insecure, no benefits, stressed about making ends meet? Just who does this mythical 'efficiency' benefit and who pays the cost for the form it takes? Well, these issues may play out differently in different countries.

Sadly I have to report that the GX was a scam. I have opened up a not received report with ebay. This is going to be tough since it says it was received but the tracking number that ebay provided doesn't match the tracking number of the package that was received according to my local post office.
I guess the seller has 3 days to respond but I doubt that will happen. I emailed him twice and no response.

Super unfortunate, the red flags were the size of Mars on this one.

Ebay has since pulled the listing and it no longer shows in completed auctions, just on the list of completed. And I would never-ever use USPS in tracking only or even non-direct signature for something like this, mandatory fully insured UPS or FEDEX direct signature only and that goes for being the seller or buyer.

In my opinion, this was way too easy to scam at various stages of the transaction, let this be a lesson to all.

The feeling that one has been taken is a sinking one. I too am in the midst of working through my credit card company which has provisionally put the money back in my account. In my case the seller has claimed that it was shipped and received, however I never got a shipping notice and I did not receive it. See PayPal Problems at https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/paypal-problems.203621/#post-2752194 for more details.

Best wishes towards a successful resolution for you.

Let PayPal know too. Even let your credit card company know they will push the other parties.

If you used PayPal and a credit card no way the buyer will lose money. In fact it's really very unlikely that the moron who tried this scam will ever see anything.
Rule above all else never use debit and no friends and family.

I’ve been following this story with interest, I’m always curious about the eBay scams people try to pull. With the seller’s zero feedback eBay will not have given the seller any of the money at this point, so it should be easy to reverse the transaction. My son as a new eBay user sold some expensive bicycle parts and eBay held the funds for a 30 day period, enough time for any problems to come to light before they let go of the money.
This Rolleiflex deal was of course probably too good to be true from the get-go.
I suspect the refund will come quickly as it’s quite obviously an attempted scam.

The scammer hopes the buyer won't report the missing item until it's too late to complain - basically, three months. And the fact is. it will happen every now and then.

I've bought quite a few items via Ebay over the years, but tend now to keep to things which are new and from established sellers.
No major problems in the past, but I find that some seller's descriptions of "as new", "excellent" etc. can prove a bit misleading (perhaps not intentionally, and perhaps my expections could be a bit too high! )
I appeciate that Ebay and Credit Cards provide some guarantee of refunds, but I'd prefer to try to avoid the disappointment and delay of having to send stuff back and possible delay and argument in resolving the matter.

....

And then the driver claims he had dropped it off at the door and forged signature. All I'm saying this looks good on paper, not a 100% guarantee of confirmed delivery.

Once, a company dropped our package at the door, took a picture of it, and then picked it back up and took it back to her vehicle. My wife happened to be coming out of another door and saw the delivery person carrying a box from the porch to her vehicle; and asked what was going on. The person then handed the box to my wife. We complained to the company and sent them the door bell video. There was lots of followup from the company. We got our package, of course; but pretty dumb to try that in front of a door with a doorbell camera.

Do you have protection if the shipper like FedEx has a picture they took of the package at your door?

We had a box that FedEx photographed at the wrong door at the wrong building. We called, complained, and it was finally delivered another day. That did not do the Blood Pressure a lot of good especially since it was a one of kind item.

Not that long ago I had ordered something from Amazon, & when it shown it was delivered, the photo showed it was delivered at a different apartment door at a different apartment complex that was across the street from me. Fortunately, the Amazon guy came to my apartment complex right after, so I pretty much had to run him down & say "hey, you delivered my package, but that aint my door 😐" & showed him the Amazon photo/info. He ended up going back to the other complex to get the package back & give it to me.

My experience is that very rarely do you have to send anything back, except in the case of deciding you just don't want it after all, anything wrong or faulty is usually kept. And while eBay offers an outlet for scammers there aren't a lot more scammers in the world than there used to be, and be thankful we don't fall for snake oil salesmen, bogus doctors and dentists, and second hand car dealers nearly as much as previous generations did and without consumer laws to protect them.

Facebook Marketplace has way more scammers - and they're more successful. There is no protection on there at all. People are "selling" expensive items for prices much lower than the actual value. When you say you want to buy it, they'll enter into a conversation which is to convince you to send them some lesser amount of money so they'll "hold" that thing for you, since they're going to be busy with work or something similar, and there are a lot of people interested. So, you send them money and they vanish.
Or they offer to ship a smaller item and you send them money and .... they vanish.
Facebook can't control who makes an account. Facebook doesn't control the payment methods of sales on Marketplace. The result is Marketplace is overflowing with scams.

Hey campy51, If you have your heart set on a GX there is a nice one in Northhampton on craigslist. Not as good a deal as the ebay offering, but that was not real anyway. It's too rich for my blood, plus I'm still enjoying the 2.8E I bought from you.
