Yes but we must admit that the 'flu infected' remark gives Drew's scenario that George A. Romero/Night of the Living Dead sort of subtle flavour that is mostly absent from our old (though still valuable) youthful Christmas day misanthropic recollections.

Totally. He has the edge in apocalyptic scene-painting.

The link I received takes me to the UK site, and as per usual you can buy direct just view the product you want and there's a button to Add To Cart, I tried it, and it's working and is on all products.

There used to be a separate Online shop link, it's intergrated now.

I cannot now attempt to "buy" an item to test the system as I have deleted the e-mail with the code and of course it's no code no discount

What I can say is that even after I signed-in, nowhere does the code appear on the site so anyone who received the code but deleted it,expecting to see it on the site or deleted the e-mail but then changed their mind about buying is out of luck

So the best that might be said about the offer as it stands is that it was intended only for those who are already members and receive Harman offers.

In summary either Harman has made a bad job of its offer by accident i.e. not made it user friendly by accident or has adopted what appears to be a new policy of confining its offers to members only

Or option three - that Harman encourages registration as a member by extending members-only perquisites.

I don’t think there is such a thing as ‘members’. There are ‘subscribers’ to the site: those who have ordered there before, or engage with the ‘community’, and have stored their details for future ease of use. I am a subscriber, and as a result do receive Harman news and offers. But this one is not working for me.

I suspect there is something going on between the site and today’s security-conscious browsers. Harman’s website people need to know that.

Here's my Black Friday disappointment. B&H started off a wee bit early. I ordered a set of Gitzo carbon fiber tripod legs only $699 USD ($300 off!) I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but it was more than this junk. Gitzo is just a brand now, not the original, the legs were carbon tubing. Nice and light but the goofy quick release head junk. No way, it's going back, 10 minutes after I requested a return, got the ok from good ol B&H (love these folks).

People go nuts complaining about spending $6k plus fo a Leica body. I get it, but Leica still makes great products. And sure Leica sells a lot of goofy sourced "lifestyle" products but the core line is awesome.

OK back to Harman:smile:

Member seemed a reasonable word to convey my meaning but yes subscriber may better describe what you and I are

I take it from what you say that when you attempt to order and reach the check-out you see no sign of a "discount code" into which I assume the code given to subscribers in an e-mail should be placed ?

If this is the case then yes what you see and what I see is different

I'll leave it to you to decide what if anything you wish to do about it

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be pedantic, just pointing folks to the terminology Harman use, because signing in is a possibility. However, I don’t even get the chance to ‘add the basket’, whether I’m signed in or not.

My intention here on Photrio was not just to have a moan to forum members, rather to try to get a message where Harman/Ilford might see it.

Isn't that what I said, Matt?

I can certainly see why it might want to encourage members but in terms of what this does for its business seems to be flawed

Only current "members/suscribers" get the e-mail so how do other "non members" who don't see the occasional offers of a discount ever realise that there are advantages to be a member?. If the offer was extended to all comers then they have to register to be able to receive the goods anyway so the most efficient way to increase its sales or gain loyalty is to make the offer available to all comers as it used to

So I am still puzzled about why the change and whether the change to not placing an announcement on its site was deliberate or simply a mistake

OK and if as a registered user of Harman's offers in the past you have not had their e-mail or did get the e-mail but have been unable to order any items and place the discount code into your basket then clearly something has gone wrong in your case and I would contact Harman directly

Yes it may see this thread but I have doubts about how often it checks with Photrio on matters it knows only affect the very tiny percentage of U.K based Photrio members

Close.
Some sites I deal with allow purchases by people signing in as guests. To encourage people to register an account, they offer extra discounts on their sites that appear only when you sign in while you shop/before you put something in your cart.
