Yes. But those aren't prints either, just copystand reproductions of them. And the site hasn't been updated for about fifteen years, so don't
expect any state-of-the-art digi antics (it's a very low priority on my list).

I understand site updating, mine hasn't been updated in 4 years or so, so I get it, my work is WAY better than it was then, but it gives me a sense of what you consider "good" or a "good shot" worth putting up. If you would direct me to where I might see your work somewhere NEWER, feel free.

Lol, oh Simon that is almost harsh it is so true...;-)

The difference in tonal separation, grain structure and overall luminosity between a black and white scan and a real silver gel print is enormous, and it has not a darned thing to do with how good your scan is or not.

Sorry Stone, but my next tweak to the website will probably be to PULL all images off it and leave only contact info. For one thing, only a small
percent of my work comes across on the web, and that poorly at best. None of the more subtle images do. Second, the web is incapable of
giving an indication of quality, so it's not surprising how a generation that doesn't know anything but the web confuses imagery on it from the
with the real deal, and thus wastes my time. So far, 100% of the prints I've ever sold have been seen in person, and exactly 0% have been sold to tourists. So Peter Lik has nothing to fear from me when Aunt Maude in Peoria wins the lottery and wants something new to hang in the
addition to her trailer house, opposite her black velvet Elvis rug.

We have a Peter Lik store in our town, my teeth start to fall out just walking by. Sorry Stone, but Thomas Kinkade died an unhappy millionaire purveyor of closeout halloween candy art. At least Peter has his fleet of photoshop minions working to juice up his shots in post in the Walmart sized facility *they* produce the final product in, so he will likely pass on as a happy man since he is not moving the mouse...

Lik and Kinkade do have a lot in common. Both have been utterly ignored by the fine arts and museum crowd, except when regarded with unspeakable contempt, which I can't repeat here. Both developed serious presentation skills - Kinkade with his sophisticated paint-by-numbers mass reproduction equipment, Lik with ways of simply mounting massive prints. Both are color-blind artistic zeros who would embarrass any junior high crafts class. Kinkade got into a lot of legal trouble by constantly tempting art fraud laws, and finally getting bagged for ripping off his own franchises. I don't even want to meet anyone like Lik, and probably never will, since he seems addicted to stereotypical scenic turnout spots. If he ever publishes another book, it should be titled, "Nature's Pimp". Just like Donald Trump, all he knows how to do is desecrate nature.

The only time I ever saw a Peter Lik gallery was when I was in Key West in 2010 shooting Kodachrome, don't worry I didn't waste a single frame shooting his store and I knew very little compared to what I know now, but I remember since I wasn't buying, that I didn't stay and see everything, but I remember this image in particular being memorable and stuck in my mind... I think this is it...

I obviously have no idea what it was shot on, but it does look like a fuji chrome image... and I certainly think it's saturated, but so are lots of Velvia shots that are made just the way they are without photoshopping... I'm not saying SOME boost wasn't done to this image, just that it's POSSIBLE it wasn't a CRAZY amount of saturation.

Anyway, your B&W images are way better Dan, than Peter's and I don't know that I've seen any of your color images, but I'm sure they are fantastic.

As an aside, there's no counting on aesthetics when it comes to color, my mom, who does her best to support my art in her own way, doesn't like a single one of my B&W images, because she finds B&W images boring and prefers color, often asks me why I don't shoot more color images, almost desperately, and my reply is always the same, that I would if it weren't so expensive... HAH! but I do love B&W, just that, I would certainly shoot MORE color if I could afford it.

In contrast... here are a few of MY images that are color with no photoshop to the colors... all shot on chromes of some sort... they aren't too dissimilar in color intensity than his...

as i had promised ... the skann is labelled what the film is.

as i suggested, they look fine by me, highlights not blown out in the tri x or tmy 2.

LOL maybe you should do some of your own homework now
instead of getting others to do your testing for you ...

he just looks like a photographer who likes bright colors like most others who shoot color.

he's making $$ good for him ...
all this hate for people who are successful or who use photoshop or plastic cameras or whatever ... you are too much ...

Anyway thanks, I would test the TXP if I could get my hands on some fresh and new without buying 50 sheets. But I can't so I'll just start with TMY-2 and see how I like it in sheet long term, in roll form I was frustrated at first, but after I figured out some things, it wasn't so bad, and has grown on me hah!

But I appreciate the effort for sure... one thing... why does it appear the stuff shot at EI800 is over exposed and the stuff shot at 200 is under exposed... did you switch those by accident?

EDIT: or did you mean you shot it at 400 and then pulled to 200 and pushed to 800?

i don't think it really matters what film you use
as long as you are using something you want to use.
tmy isn't a bad film, a bit clinical for my tastes ..

both films were asa 400 films

i exposed half of each sheet at 200 the other half at 800

i didn't push or pull process anything. i processed them NORMALLY just as i said could be done.

to push and pull the development, i would have had to cut each sheet of film IN HALF and process them separately.
as you can hopefully see, they are whole sheets of film .. no smoke and mirrors ...

unfortunately on forums a lot of people say stuff and don't back it up with anything.
hopefully you will see that it IS possible to shoot tri x 400 or tmy-2 at 200, 400, or 800 and process it normally ...
as i said, labs did this all the time, doesn't make sense that you wouldn't be able to as well ...

Yes, and you know I often try to back stuff up when able, I hope that's noticed anyway...

And thanks, and yes seems TMY-2 handles it better, at least in the mid tones looking at that center tree.

Anyway good stuff... I was busy trying to use my new Cambo 6x12 back today, and ran into a snag so didn't get to shoot as much autumn stuff as I had hoped... alas... (hopes someone who's used the back knows how to fix my problem in the other thread) LOL

yup, its noticed !

i agree about the tmy2 .. but the tri x was a few years old ( expired a few years ago, it was the freshest i had )
not sure what it would have been like if it was fresh ... or i used a different developer, i used what i had on hand ..

But PRINT yes... by all means print... You ARE missing the best bit!

You'll forgive me being a company man for the film I shoot...

But I have to be honest and say that Ilford Galerie has always been my favorite paper!

Since you may be shooting my favorite film, I can give you my simple advice...

Shoot the TMY-2 at EI 250... Then you will have everything up on the straight line.

If you find yourself handholding at 1/focal length and for a shot you absolutely MUST shoot as if the EI is 400. Just do it.

That's the rated speed and you'll be OK.

Not a hater, it's just that I live in a town of 6,000 people and I hear about is coloramas all the time and know a couple people who work at the gallery, it's quite the schtick.

Oh it's certainly a Schtick ot SchLIK haha

Dan you should open up your own photo studio right next to his and you could pick up all his foot traffic and you would be the black and white guy, no competition, and I'm sure your prices would be a little bit more reasonable (realistic) and you would pricing out of the market

I know you got your own thing going, but couldn't hurt to be a funny little thing to do not that you have the money to open up a shop next to his store hire a bunch of employees etc., but in fantasyland it's kind of funny to think, the Kodachrome man selling his beautiful FILM images in color and B&W and stealing all his foot traffic

I'm going to try out a bunch of different stuff, I'm sure that I will certainly take that advice under advisement and shoot some at that ASA, probably along with some Double-X on a shoot sometime, that way I don't have to adjust my strobes when switching back and forth.

Ultimately, if Double-X existed in 4x5 sheets, that would be my film... Hands down... *drools a little*
