Hi Friends,

I was lucky enough to buy a mint Zeiss Ikon 266/1, the camera looks wonderful, unfortunately the shutter only fires at one speed, is there a shutter pro here who can help?

Thank you 🙏

Hello,

I think the shutter needs a CLA. Since I live in Germany, I send my Compur shutters with problems to a repair man in Dachau near Munich. He works fast and he has repaired several shutters from different decades for me. Maybe he is an option for you?

Some of my colleagues clean the shutters themselves. This is also possible, but I prefer the work of a professional service.

From Photrio's perspective, we have no problem with sharing contact information here for an operating business with a public face.

This is a beautiful camera! It appears to have interchangeable lenses which is a useful (and rare) feature in cameras of this type.

What format is it? Do you have plate holders for this camera? Are you going to use it?

I recommend you have the whole camera professionally serviced (not just the lens).

My favorite service for large format lenses and shutters is CT-Kameraservice in Dachau

You can email him and ask if he can help you with your shutter.

If you want to look inside the shutter yourself, there is some information at

I got this information on the forum on plate cameras, and I've looked inside the shutters of two cameras and managed to get them working.

Although I'm a relatively nervous person, with the help of the information from your post, I dared to open the shutter and use some lighter fluid to free the clockwork so that it can run again. I managed to repair the shutter and now all the speeds are running correctly +-

Thanks so much

I think that is the tropical model, teak without the leather covering. Looks great!!! I always thought they used 135 mm lenses on the 9x12 cameras, and I've seen references to a 10x15. You'll probably need film sheaths (if your holders don't already have them) since the camera was was made for glass plates. You might find more info in the plate camera section.

Good news! You probably know this already, but just in case.

Glass plates are available from Zebra Dry Plates in Slovenia:

Foma in Czech Republic sells Fomapan in 9x12 sheet film format:

9x12 sheet film inserts are available from Alternative Photographic Supplies in Poland:

Please be gentle with the shutter. Flushing it with lighter liquid is only a temporary solution, not a substitute for a proper service.

I am looking forward to seeing the photographs made with this camera. Good luck!

Hi,

beautiful and I like those very well made bellows...
Btw, there is a chance that optics/shutters from other cameras (Ideal etc.) with the same sized shutter (Compur 2 or Compound 2) can be used.
My 1928 made Zeiss Ikon 250/7 with 4.5 /15cm can use the lens of a 1913 13x18 Ica Ideal 385...

Best

Good point. It should also be possible to use a more modern shutter-lens combination on this camera with a proper adapter (I had one made for my Certo Super Sports Dolly).

Some more Images from this Beauty

Could you please post an image of the back of the shutter/lens assembly? I am trying to understand how it is held in place. I see the latch but it does not feel substantial enough to hold the shutter in the lens board.

And to complete the picture, a shot of the camera back with the focusing screen would be very handy.

Almost looks like someone could make another back for that camera that takes modern 4x5 or 9x12 film holders.

I have a 9x12 camera from my grandfather that I recently refurbished. Not quite as nice as your Zeiss...

I use film with glass plate holders. Just have a glass plate in place, and slip the film between the glass plate and the metal that holds the front of the plate. Sure, you need one glass plate.

The serial number starting with L corresponds to the production year of 1926. I like the rotating back on this camera.
