I am preparing to develop some 4x5 sheets of HP5+ using my Jobo 2551 and two 2509n 4x5 reels. There are 12 sheets which is the equivalent of 3 rolls of 135-36 film.

Based on my reading of the Ilford datasheet covering Ilfotec DD-x (and two other liquid Ilford developers)on page 10 dealing with Availability and Capacity, I will need 187.5 ml of Ilfotec DD-X to develop these 12 sheets of film (62.5ml multiplied by 3).

Since Ilfotec DD-X is mixed 1+4 then I will need an additional 750 ml of water to mix with the developer.

This is a first for me with 4x5 and Ilfotec DD-X. Typically I am using this developer to develop Delta Pro 3200 in 135-36 or 120 but not using continual agitation. Obviously I will be reducing the developing time by 15% to account for the agitation but I don't believe that changes the amount of developer required.

I realize that some people probably use less developer but I am testing a couple of lenses at various shutter speeds so I want to use adequate developer to at least eliminate that variable.

I would appreciate it if someone would give me their read on this to ensure I haven't missed something. Based on my reading of other threads, including this one, https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/dd-x-what-is-the-minimum-amount-per-film.87835/ I should be pretty close.

As always, thanks in advance for your time and your advice.

Being a bit impatient and a risk taker at heart I went ahead. After giving this some thought and looking back over my past dilutions, I was using 60 ml of developer with 240 ml of water in my small 35mm tank. Since I was pretty happy with those (though they were for D3200) I decided to press ahead with those numbers as my baseline.

Assuming 900 ml total in the 2551 tank, which is about maxed out for being rotated on its side, This gave me 180 ml of Ilfotec DD-X and 720 ml of water. I developed for 8m at 20C which is about 15% less development than recommended for normal small tank development.

The negatives came out pretty well though I will have to wait until they are dry before I make any decisions. I know for most of you this is pretty ho-hum stuff but when it comes to developing I am certainly not a master chemist by any means.

The 150mm Symmar L negs look pretty good, which is no real surprise, but I am happily surprised by the negatives from the 135mm Schneider K Xenar from my homely little Crown Graphic. I don't think it has near the leeway for camera movements that the Symmar has but it has really good tonality and nice sharpness.

I am looking forward to getting some prints.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I certainly have. :D
