"Felt" is probably the wrong term. It's more like thin velour or velvet. Kodak uses it on their cassettes. (Theirs doesn't fall apart thought...)

Yes, here at Apug often the two materials are getting mixed up. But as felt indeed, at least one time was used, differentiating betweet felt and velvet makes sense though.
Velour and velvet though can be used alternating. There are various differentiating definitions on them to be found, but even are contradicting each other...
