Chris had said the camera should be on it's way to me this week. After a quick Florida vacation here (80F and sunny today  ), it should then be on it's way to Europe.

Nope, I don't think so! I don't have the camera, I just remembered the camera. Sorry my post was confusing!

Where is 8.1 anyway?

In the Great Frozen North.

That'll be alright. Matt, John and I will come pounding on your door when Matt brings the camera down. All I ask is you have some Nachos ready.

Not so fast with the disappearing!

I should be moving 8.1 along to Matt tomorrow where it is not so frozen. Its a pretty short hop across the border at that point.
Here, skiing has been open since mid October. I just mounted new studded winter tires on my bicycle on Fri - in time for the 1st snow storm that clogged up the morning rush hour. I can report that Camera 8.1 works pefectly fine in -13 C temperatures. (thats 8 F)

The Great Frozen North? Well then, looks like I can disappear for another few months!

8.2 is resting comfortably in Florida

Semeuse,
Apologies for the delay. I still wasn't able to get to the waterfalls I had planned to photograph... maybe another time.
Instead I picked up two photos of my travels.
Have a beer at the Ale House for me.

8.2 arrived just in time to accompany me on a little side trip to Lake Okeechobee. And now it's packed up and ready to spring across the pond.

The closer you get to that lake, the further back in time you go. Is Stuart/Jensen Beach still getting yucky water from there?

Love your quote

Thank you sir ... me too!

My guess: not for long.

Well I never!!! (Behaved that is...)

Excellent news on the moving front.. but is that really a real name for a lake? Okeechobee? Sounds a bit like Okiedokie.. which definitely isn't a lake - so far as I know!

Sile,
Yes, even in text, your pronunciation is correct. It does sound like that.
My question about Stuart/Jensen Beach comes from an unknown (then, not sure aboout now) issue with E. Coli and other nasties showing up in the Inlet right there at the Stuart bridge. It was going on for a few years, but I'm not sure if they ever found a definitive source. Combine waste with summer algae bloom and you've got a recipe for disaster when it comes to water recreation.
I spent some time exploring the waterways when I lived down there. To make a long story short, all those kids that visit Disneyworld (or is Disneyland? I forget.) have all of their urine and feces float down the Kissimmee River with a few other waterways and collect in Lake Okeechobee, an abomination created by the Army Corps of Engineers. This water is then distributed to south Florida via a network of canals and rivers for irrigation and treatment to be used for drinking, bathing, and most importantly, enabling wet t-shirt contests. In addition to the central part of the state's population's waste matter, it also passes through a lot of commercial farming area... sugar, corn, soy, etc. Along the way, some of their waste water and fertilizer by-products get dumped into this water supply before it ever gets to people. The high mineral deposits wreak havoc on the ecosystem. Nitrogen, among many other things dumped, are a catalyst to help the non-native vegetation spread like wildfire to choke out and kill some of the good filtering grasses of what is physically known as the River of Grass. Most people know this label as The Everglades. The national park of the same name is just a very small small part of this when you look at it in its entirety.
So the Army's Corps of Engineers decided long ago that they would dike this body of water to make a lake, and distribute it for the growing population in the first half of the 1900s. By not passing legislation to protect what goes into the water (corruption maybe? we can discuss after I adjust my tin foil hat), the government is actually allowing large commercial farming companies to chemically harm the same people they originally intended to help. It's so much easier for them to dump or "accidentally spill" some of this onto the fields after harvest or into the canals, than to actually pay for proper disposal.
Confusing and frustrating all in the same project. This is just one of many. Welcome to America. We're too busy meddling in the affairs of others to fix our own problems.
In case you're wondering, yes... I have been known to hug a tree or two.

Sorry to hear that.

Flew over your house yesterday. Couldn't see it for the clouds.

Sounds like a wonderful place for a vacation Chris... but the real question is this.. has a tree ever hugged you back?

local chickens are molting. don't know if this is good omen or bad.

Lisa

Bad... Oh bad...

Not as bad as it was - but still, every once in awhile, someone opens that gate and...

The gate is well and truly open...

I wish. That plane won't stop for me and the first step is a doozy.

I'll be back in Aachen in a couple of weeks. The land of warmth and sunshine NOT!

Good light to all, keep it moving (The bran flakes slogan).
