I tested Rollei Digibase C41 chemistry today. Bes C41 negs i have ever seen. But my problem is, the seller ( macodirect.de) didnt supply me with a capacity note. I dint buy kit but the 1 litre bottles of colour dev. a b c and starter. Bleach, fix and stab.

Anyone have an idea of the capasity og 1 litre working solution of Rollei Digibase C41 dev, bleach, fix, stab?

I ave asked the seller in an email, but didnt get an answer, so i mixed up and did 12 120 films. That came out great. But im very unsure how many films the 3 baths can take.

Glad you had a good experience with it. I did not and it may be because they were lab dev'ed. Next time through I will do it myself. I *love* the maskless negs, but... even in 120 format, the film was very grainy for the speed (I rated it at 200). I was disappointed with grain. The colours were cool though.

RE: capacity, why not just guess based on a comparable speed film. Shouldn't be very different.

Is this the info you're after?

http://macodirect.de/rollei-digibase-c41brfilm-p-1965.html

CAPACITY:
The color developer, working solution, example 250ml: One can at least process 3 films in a approach of 250ml. This requires a rapid processing (within 6 hours) ahead. Between the working steps, the solutions should be sealed and protected from air carriers.
The bleaching bath, ready-made solution, 250ml example: One can process at least 8 films in a approach of 250ml. The little use solution should be kept in well-sealed bottles for several weeks.
The stabilizing bath, ready-made solution, example 250ml: One can at least process 12 films in a approach of 250ml. The littel use solution, can be kept in well-sealed bottles for several weeks.

I've had one colour neg come out with a clear base... surprisingly (or un) it's a 200 speed german colour negative.. probably a supermarket film.. Paradies Fotowelt... I'm unaware of other German colour film makers, so must be the same stuff, was a few years expired.

Yes, but can you see why im so confused:smile:

In the PDF the capasity is 3 films and in on the page where the PDF link is, its up to 40 films.

Just see the link folks and see if you can help out:smile:

My reading of that page is that the 40 films is for the 200ml of concentrate, and the 3 films is for the 250mL working solution. So, 1l of working solution should therefore be able to process 12 rolls of film. The actual capacity would depend on how much of the film is exposed etc but I wouldn't risk going past their recommendations.

Okay, and thats for the developer. But for bleach and fix, i cant find any more info. It says just the same. And bleach, fix and dev has different capacity, as far as i have experienced. Right?

There is no german manufacturer coating colour film at the moment.
"Paradies Fotowelt" is just a privat label.

There are only three maskless CN films manufactured at the moment. The only brand that offers a maskless CN in consumer sizes is Rollei (Digibase).

That such a film would be offered under private label, would be a surprise to me.

Well its maskless and expired Paradies Fotowelt, 200 speed.

Between the frame numbers is ISO200/24°-Y, the frame number after that is 6574-40 15R

Most negs using my process (Rodinal, Fix, Bleach, E6 CD, Bleach, Fix) come out with a green base, this came out with a neutral base very close to clear, I would call it clear, but I've had b&w with clearer base, all colours strongly visible.

This reminds of a thread some months ago about a maskless CN-film surprisingly loosing its mask after special processing. So far as I remember that enigma has not been solved yet.

It was you Athiril that brought up that issue. So, was it this film it was about?

I remember when processing colour reversals on C41 film with Xtol (mostly Fuji at the time iirc), that I would get very pale bases (C41 as CD). Rodinal colour reversals (C41 as CD) would give the full orange mask like a neg, but with a positive image.

Atm, all my Xtol and Rodinal reversals fail as Ive been trying ways to run them cold, they both end up as opaque film, they seem to work hot though (38-40c).

Seems Ascorbic Acids likes to change base colour.. I took some sensia that was lab developed that had clear areas and bathed it in ascorbic acid.. ended up changing to a yellowish base. Weird.

My Reala that I xpro'ed using a modified E6 first dev recipe (bromide and iodide replaced with benzotriazole, metol replaced with paracetamol gram for gram (then hydrolysis to aminophenol) and some added ascorbate gave me a pale masked positive... when corrected looks like this.

4156272851_5e5000fe93.jpg

The density and mask colour of C41 seem all over the place.. affected by both first developer and whether using E6 CD or C41 as the colour developer.

Though results for the same process are generally consistent across different films, so I dont think the neutral base is a result of processing, that would be some odds. The others are all quite green.

Edit: One more thing, when I bulk loaded 10exp and tried to cold process it with Rodinal as a first dev for xpro to positive.. opaque with no image, 36exp? Same process? Slightly less opaque real dense base with a very very thin positive image in there. Odd.

I specifically bought the bulk loader and film as it was on special so I'd stop wasting so much film chasing this cold process reversal dream.

I'm going to try one more thing... pre-wash/rinse in 40c water for 10min, and see if that makes a difference or not.

Otherwise next test will have to be Rodinal @ 38c again.

In case you still have some unprocessed film of that brand, just fix it out to see whether there is a mask in the beginning.

Unfortunately I dont, I wish I did, but I used it on developing experiments, since it was 50 cents a roll, I'll scour the op shops again, or try and see if I can get someone to send me some of it from Europe if there is any and try that.

Kompressor, in this little gallery (still growing) there are several shots on the digibase, you'll be able to tell which from the colour rendition. Most were shot in 645 format. Originally I took up interest in the digibase for a "pos or neg" project, but after I shot some test rolls while working on this other project, I liked the uncorrected, muted and slightly shifted non-literal colours for the interiors. So I think you might get the idea of why I used three totally different colour films for different scenes... (to hell with colour-palette consistency!) but, it's still very much a work in progress.
