What are the currently available thermometers of equivalent calibrated accuracy (better than 0.25oC accuracy, ideally 0.125oC at colour process temps) as the Kodak Process Type 3? I'm aware the prices are likely quite painful.

Fair enough. I've thought about moving over to a digital probe thermometer for day-to-day work but haven't really given it a huge degree of consideration.

Caution here...a digital probe thermometer may appear to be PRECISE, but that is no assuance it is ACCURATE!

Just out of curiosity what is there that requires an accuracy of better than 0.25C and ideally as good as 0.125 C?

Thanks

I don't think that a thermometer that is only accurate to +/-2° is what the OP is looking for. I have a kodak process thermometer and have always found that the Patterson short-range thermometers are VERY accurate.

It's a typo, the Kaiser is '+/- 0.2oC' but not certified traceably. The traceability is what adds to the cost - like calibrated step tablets.

C-41 developer is specified as '37.8oC +/- 0.15oC' and E-6 First Developer as '38oC +/- 0.3oC. The latter, once running, should be ideally held to +/- 0.2oC.

I bought Paterson Color Thermometer. Supposedly Accurate to + 0.14°C (+ 0.25°F) but not certified. Someone suggested calling your local university and asking if their chem lab can verify accuracy, apparently they often don't mind doing this. Instead, I bought two and they show me exactly the same temp across the range. Later, I bought Cinestill TCS-1000 and it also shows exactly the same temp, so I feel comfortable recommending it.

Any serious scientific lab supply could help you. I don't have their latest catalog, but LSS (Lab Safety Supply) had a decent selection. Expect equivalent "non-toy" pricing, probably in the $250 - $300 range, certified. There used to be a store in this area, with its University and many pharmaceutical industries, that sold nothing but scientific thermometers - hundreds of kinds of them. I'm sure certain facilities around here have gear that measures in millionths of a degree, but also cost millions of dollars. I'm quite satisfied with my official Kodak Process Thermometer, which I found new, with a bit of patience, for only $50.
