I've shot a lot of Kentmere 100 developed in Rodinal. It's a great film and at one time it could be bought for $2.95 a 36 exposure roll...about the same price as bulk loading Fp4 per roll. It seems prices jumped up for Ilford products and Kentmere was not spared but it's still cheaper then its counterparts.

Personally, I think a roll of film today is a bargain. Kentmere in bulk rolls is a steal. IMO, there has never been a better time to shoot b&w film and I'm enjoying it!

Oh yeah I love Kentmere (prefer it over anything Kodak offers), definitely a steal by comparison. Just using the B & H prices, 100ft rolls of Kentmere 100 and 400 work out to be roughly 2.39 and 2.21 per roll, respectively.

Ain't gonna get much better than that.

I've heard the Ultrafine line was plagued with QC issues some time ago. Perhaps they fixed these issues?

Wow! Raised from the dead thread. The "BAD" film was rebranded Shanghai 120 film that had terrible number-offset bleed from the backing paper and emulsion defects of fungi type growth. I believe this film is long gone. All the Ultrafine Xtreme films are near perfect or at least they have been for me anyway.

I've used the Ultrafine Xtreme films for 4 years and never had a quality problem. They used to have a Pro line which I thought was poor quaity based on one roll of 120-100 (I don't think they sell the Pro films anymore).

Neal, I really think you are right. While I am certainly not rich. Probably less so than most in APUG, I have always found that bulk film was valuable as a convenience, not so much as a money saver. With bulk, as has been mentioned before, if I want or need some 10 or 15 exposure rolls I have them and as I remember and once used 20 exp. factory rolls (not 24), I have them too. You won't find me scrapping my Leica film cartridges, no way......Regards!

Chiming in.. Kentmere..? I've heard good thing about that film. Does it produce a nice image?

Been using Kentmere for several years and yes it does. Good contrast and easy to print from.
