Is aperture priority settings essential for EC, or does it work as well in manual mode also…


In general, manual mode exposure is understood as manually setting both aperture and shutter speed (and ISO). As such, the camera will not apply an exposure compensation on top of that because you as the user make the translation from whatever metering input (if any) to the exposure settings.

My advice will still work but you need to apply the exposure compensation manually.
