Todd, yes I did read your much appreciated blog post.
I didn't understand what "tape residue" was at that time but do now.

Looking at your last pictures my body does seem to have "no space' similar to your photo where the mirror is almost flush with the bottom of the mirror holder/cradle thing.
I'll have to try checking with the mirror up but unfortunately mirror lockup is one thing the 159 lacks despite having some other features like 1/4000 shutter speed.

I guess I can fire the camera on B and hold the shutter release.

Okay just checked and I'm not seeing slippage when in the up position. At least nothing visible on the underside of the mirror. It seems to be in the correct position.
Hopefully it will be fine and I am just paranoid.
It does get freakishly humid here in DC come July/August.

Good news! I wouldn't worry about it then. I don't think moisture is an issue beyond what it would be with any camera gear. It's extreme heat, like leaving your camera in the car on a hot sunny day, which might loosen up the adhesive.

From what I've read this issue was mostly with the RX, and I only ran into recently after having my RX for almost 10 years (and purchased used back then). I have both RTS and RTSII with no issues.

Hello everyone. I was also having this RX Aperture alignment issue, and after peeking at the factory repair manual, I fixed it with a pair of tweezers and 5 minutes of my time. Here's a link to a video I made explaining it.
