Ian, how did you find the base + fog with the Fomapan 400? If it's anything like the J&C stuff, I'll consider it for Alt. processes. Thanks!

I didn't really look at the base fog, I'm not sure where I put the negatives, I found the contrast it produced rather flat and insipid.

Looking at your side by side comparisons the light is slightly more contrasty with the Classic Pan image. I tend to do my tests and comparisons with MF cameras these days because I think a range of subjects/conditions is more beneficial.
