Jason;

Exactly correct. My assumptions above assumed identical molar quantities under identical conditions of use or exposure.

BTW. Don't eat Rhubarb leaves, just eat the RED part of the stalks. Any green parts are deadly!

I have found the following suppliers of ascorbic acid. 1 in the UK

Artcraft (USA)
Photographer's Formulary (USA)
Silverprint (UK)
Tech Chem Inc (US)

If there is a Trader Joe's store in your area, you can find 1lb bottles of pure ascorbic acid crystals in the vitamin section. If I remember correctly, the price is in the neighborhood of $10.00 per pound.

IIRC the same with tomatoes. Considered by Europeans to be poisonous when first introduced to them (one of the solanaceae - atropin) someone finally twigged to try the fruit.

Comes to that green bits of potatos aren't all that good for you either!

tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, tobacco, jimson, mandrake, belladonna
they are all part of the ( deadly)nightshade family ...
a lot of plants that we eat the fruit store their toxins in their leaves.
mandrake, belladonna and jimson cause delirium and vivid hallucinations ...
and people have been using tobacco recreationally for its effects since the time it was discovered.

Funny how so many of the substances we prize from plants are produced by the plant as insecticides and herbivorecides.

As photographers we prize the organic reducing agents like pyro and catechol. But there are also all the recreational neurotoxins such as caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, marijuana, opium and copious varieties of hallucinogens.

In reality the only thing instant coffee is good for is developing film, defiantly not for drinking.

you would be surprised ...
instant coffee isn't 100% robusta, it is a blend of mostly arabica beans ...
and ... a lot of expensive coffees, especially espressos have robusta beens blended into them ..
often times the robusta coffee is the thing that gives the crema/foam
in the coffee you enjoy.
it seems to be an industry wide thing ...

I would expand that out to any coffee.
