Is that after a certain step, or at the end of development? Also, just water in the bath? This looks like it works remarkably well.

Jkjod, removing the graphite layer is made before developer.
You have to consider that in the video that was removed from 16 mm film a graphite layer (5 perforations ~ 4 cm) in a volume of several hundred ml solution.
In developing tank of about 15 m of film we have 2 liters of solution.
Another problem is that the ultrasound system works normally when the film is in front of ultrasonic generator.
In developing tank the film is spooled in layers.
The interior spiral cavitation effect will be reduced many.
Basically, removing the graphite layer will be made, but the risk of some particles remain stuck on the film surface.
