320-interesting choice for a film speed. In recent years only Foma has produced a 320 film but I think it has ceased production of this

I think it is safe to say Catlabs dont
It's not confusing; it's a JOKE based on the old "Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know is on third" Abbot and Costello routine. It was a way of saying he doesn't want to say. There can be multiple reasons for this including possibly an agreement with the company doing the coating not to divulge it.

I used to work with a hardware company that used a mainland China company to do its house brand tools and stuff. Our company was constrained to not divulge the manufacture name because our stuff was made to meet certain price/quality/package criteria.

Say the stuff we bought and was made for us was a "make it cheap" criteria and didnt had a good quality, if we said "X" company made that, it will hurt the company name. The product was cheap because that was our requeriment, not because the manufacture company couldn't make good quality stuff.

Not sure if this is the case but the point is that there is a lot of business rules/strategies for they dont wanting to discuss the manufacturer.

It befuddles me to think that some folks expect a company to divulge the manufacturing details of their proprietary product. It never hurts to ask but when information is not forthcoming then it’s a reasonable response. A data sheet is a reasonable expectation, and if not provided then a decision can be made to not use the product. Let’s face it… even the “Kodak/Fuji experts” here, more than not, are guessing about these company’s inner workings and thought processes.

I love the look of the samples posted on the op's website, but the painful part is that I don't love spending $80 w/ shipping to get a few rolls, especially when I can try 1 roll of film at some place like Freestyle for $20 shipped (Foma).

To me, trying out a new film involves only a roll or two. With 2 rolls I can do half the negs in one developer, and the other half in a different developer. The second roll can be shot at different EI's, etc. That's all I need to figure a film out, because logically, if it isn't working w/ 4 different samples it isn't ever going to work.

I'd be tempted to try this, but not at the cost that's required to try an unknown film.

Agree with you Brian. I mean, they are hardly the only company with such a policy. Ultrafine and Maco Direct (Rollei's films) never discussed that and thats fine.

What country do you live? How do you get that $80 charge? EU?

It is okay if we don’t know who made it or what’s in it, most of us have had a hot dog or some kind of sausage before and lived through it so it will be okay with this too. The lack of good documentation is not a good sign and should be fixed. I did look at the web site again to see and it is not there. Cat Labs looks like a quality outfit just from the looks of the web site and the offerings there. They may also be cat lovers as I am, just guessing by the name and logo. Maybe they should rename the film to “Manx 320” another variety of felis catus that is short of D-tails.

Maco veiled the manufacturers of all their films, including the Rollei branded ones. But over time they let this veil go at least for Agfa.

Did MaCo actually admited that some of their films is Aviphot? I mean, you could say it is common knownledge now but that comes from actual usage by the film users. Not sure if Maco actually admited that.

Just curious. I'm really fond on Rollei 400 RPX.

You had it above about veiling the manufacturer of the raw film, not about the actual type of film.

Ok, got it. So nothing for someone who wants to give it a try before committing, if in Europe

EU distributors are getting film as we speak, you should be able to buy it locally soon if you dont want to commit to a 10$ per roll price, likely still cheaper than many other film options our there

Your pricing is good and I will be getting some soon and doing some cat pictures with it. I have black cats, white cats in between gray cats so we can see how that works. I don't allow cats in the darkroom so I don't have a catlab for processing. You probably should name some of your films after cats, be better than Frankenstein, or Frankenfilm.

well apart from Kodak there is no roll of film that would ever cost me more than 9euros… (Cinestill is also Kodak to me in b/w).
And, tell me how it is giving a film a try when I have to get 10 rolls in order to arrive at your advertised $10 per roll? Try with 2 rolls, and I am at 45/2 per roll. You still trying to sell this to me as ”still cheaper than many other film options out there”?
I appreciate your work, but don't try to sell me as stupid

Let's hope it is not a combination of animal + lab as in LabRats.
Maybe a label; "No cats were harmed in the production of this film" is called for? 😉
