Great weekend...

Hi All - Huge thanks to Leon for organising a great set of venues. Well done Dave for the weather! Thanks to everyone for showing truck loads of great images. Especially Stoo, Aylsa, Rob and Leon for showing 'my favourite' images of the weekend (although everyone's were excellent).

Best memory for me will be seeing Aylsa enjoying a jaunt in the mud - although I may qualify for the best squelchie toes in Seasalter!
(I respectfully request a post of a photo or three to prove that one)...

No matter where we go next - can we have another boat yard with Thames Barges, great characters and tons of photogenic hulls etc.

Delphine - any more of those wonderful french images will always be grand.

Most of all, thanks to all for a really great time. Also for making both Norma and I feel very welcome - what a great weekend... It does not get much better than that...

Until the next one that is!

Can only second all the above comments.

Leon did a first class job of not only finding us a superb venue where we could stuff our faces on excellent food, then lay our alcohol-addled heads on a comfortable pillow - but he also put together a superb itinerary of photogenic spots to visit. If I wasn't so busy today I'd already be elbow-deep in processing chemicals, but I'm really excited about seeing everyone's results.

Thank you, Mark, for your kind comments about my photographs. Very much appreciated. I challenge you to a mud pie contest at the next meet! (And don't you worry, those snaps of you will be making their way into the galleries before too long...)

Thanks to everyone for providing such good company and photographic inspiration.

What a superb weekend that was, being my first one I was not quite sure what to expect, thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome and Leon of coarse for arranging it all. The work everyone showed was just out standing, made me realise how far of the mark I am, but hey ho a new roll of hp5 is in the camera so I will plod on.

Hope to meet up with you all again in the future.

Hi guys

sorry I couldn't stay longer, next time will have to organize myself better, would have loved to have seen some more work, Carl's and Leon's were fab. Leon I hope I didn't sound like I was on a high horse with my comments, keep up the good work.

For those of you that got a chance to see my large polaroids, thanks for the kind words, but next time I think something a bit smaller might be called for.

sounds like you all had a fab time and it's always nice to put names to faces, so big thanks to Leon

I've come away enthused to make new images, so thank you all

Sadly, all good things come to an end...but do they really?

Thank you to all for a great week-end, great company and awesome portfolios.

I felt shy joining the group for the week-end, and I left it enthused. I feel very "petite", but yet, very inspired, and dreaming of darkroom set up in my store room.

I will come again.

Delphine

PS: big grin and thank you to Tony, Dave, and Frank for driving me around !:D

Hi again
I can only echo all the above comments. I really hadn't realised how good Kent was - thanks Leon for your choice of locations. It was also good to see new faces. Thanks also to all those who gave me lifts. The prints were (as ever!) wonderful. I've come home inspired. I've deved the first couple of rolls but I think it will be some time before I get a chance to print them, I'm afraid.

Here's to next time!

it was a great weekend with great company and great weather. I didnt really do too much - found a fair pub to stay in and let the Kent coast do it's own thing - thankfully it didnt let me down

Thanks ever-so much to Andy (donut) and Alan (ivornikon) for going out of their way to pick me up, and help with the directions - and Frank for getting me home with my attack of dickie-oyster-belly on saturday evening.

Highlights for me were seeing everyones prints - it never stops suprising me how much better they look in the flesh; and the feeling of relief when people said they actually like Kent!

now ... where to go in the spring???

Hi Everyone.

Thank you all for a fantastic weekend. My first APUG gathering. I must say that I was a little bit nervous, but this was short lived as I was made to feel so welcome. It was great to put names to faces, some real characters and fantastic personalities.

As has already been said, Leon made a great choice on his tour of locations (thank to him), and the weather gods did the rest.

The highlight of the weekend for me was the portfolios. The quality of work was superb, every portfolio a different one, and every photographer displaying a totally individual eye. From landscape, portrait, classic cars, and candid people photography. Fan-bloody-tastic.

I look forward to seeing some of the work from the weekend and to seeing you all at the next gathering.

Huge appologies for my constant coughing and spluttering. I hope no one has caught the bug from me as it has now knocked me off my feet and sent me to my bed.

See you all soon, oh! and FrankB, remember what we talked about at breakfast!!!

All the Best

What's this? Romance in the air??? :surprised:

Just to add my thanks to Leon for picking such great locations and to all for such good company and for showing such great prints (Simon G, if you are reading this, stand by for a big increase in orders for MGIV matt!)...

Amazingly, the dreaded M25 was clear both coming and going (also :surprised: ... possibly even more so). Just finished developing both the b&w and colour negs - hanging up to dry overnight.

Cheers, Bob.

P.S. Oh yeah, Dave gets to arrange the weather next time too!

Fantastic weekend!

Many thanks for setting it up, Leon. And I don't believe a word of this "I didn't really do too much" malarkey! Finding the venue is half the battle, and this one was excellent. (In fact the food was a little too excellent, my bathroom scales are telling me...!) The shoot locations were top notch as well. Good job!

Nice work with the weather, Dave. Bob's right, you definitely get the gig again next year. If you could refrain from beating the prayer mats quite so hard though - some clouds on the Sunday would have been nice...! (A light pummelling for the Manchester region right now would be appreciated though! )

Highlights for me -

  • Meeting up with all the APUGgers, old friends and new.
  • The portfolios - talk about an embarrassment of riches! I think this was the finest accumulation (both quality and quantity) that I've had the pleasure of sifting through. From Delphine's unbelievable 1920's carbon prints through to Stoo's incredible portfolio (just stunning!), the standard of everyone's work was just ludicrously high! Special treats for me included Ailsa's wonderful portfolio (David Corfield - If you want to guarantee my ongoing subscription for a good few months then I hereby promise that a featured portfolio from Ms McWhinnie will do the trick!) and Leon's and Tony's fantastic work too.
  • The socialising - Meeting the renowned Ailsa at long last (none of the legends do her justice! :D ), picking up printing and toning tips from Stoo and Leon, chewing the fat with all and sundry... Sandeha and I even managed a quick saxophone duet under cover of darkness in the beer garden! :surprised: :D (Apologies to those who overheard us - all the bum notes were mine!)
  • The shoots - Leon guided us to some cracking locations. I'm especially hopeful for the results from Whitstable beach (although with that much contra-jour I'm going to be in the darkroom all winter trying to print 'em (oh dear, how sad, never mind!))
There may also have been some food, wine and beer involved, but I don't really pay attention to such trivialities...! <ahem> :munch:

Many, many thanks to all who turned up and made it such a great Gathering. (Especial thanks to my passengers for not screaming in terror too loudly!)

See you all (and I mean all, Ailsa McWhinnie! :D ) in the Spring!

All the best,

Frank

Nice footprints...

Good candids Sandeha... along with a few choice specials... When are the 'Blad specials' coming out?

You'll have to wait around a week or two for mine though!

Cheers - Mark

The church was Reculver, Delphine.

Good to have a bump to the thread, 'cos the next question is, "Where next?"

What do you all think, start a new thread for suggestions and then a poll thread? Or can we hammer it out in one?

Hi Delphine

I do believe the church ruin is called 'St Mary's Church', and it is situated in Reculver.

I hope you are well and am looking forward to seeing your photos.

Start a new thread otherwise it will get confused. One of the suggestions from last time was the Northumberland coast, which is somewhere I fancy. It would give those from the north, that don't like long drives a chance to join the party.

The church was Reculver, Delphine.

Thank you

Frank & Stoo: thank you both for your super fast answer.

You can view my photographs in my photographic journal (october section) :

But don't hold your breath .... * Delphine is gone into hiding mode*

Not familiar with the poll thingy, but I'll follow the crowd for the next gathering. A pity it is not before March next year though.

A good week-end to all!
