Completely different kind of horn, chaps! :D

Why? How many were you seeing, Mark?! :D

I felt that the Saturday evening mix of photos/chat/4 to five bottles of wine between us all was rather intoxicating. Seeing the best images on the banks of the Wye in the morning just after dawn wasn't bad either... But then it was a little misty...

Mark

Great to have you along, Carl. I look forward to seeing your work!

Wet plate or two...

It will be good to see another portfolio -wet plates sound interesting... Mark

Carl - It will be good to catch up again

Folks,

I just suggested to Leon about the possibility of having a print auction - silent or otherwise - whilst at this meet. We could even have a little poll for the final charity. What do folk think?

Cheers, Carl

Hi Carl

Sounds like a good Idea.

How would that work, could you elaborate more.

Look forward to meeting you.

Stoo

Folk could donate a print or two - mounted or otherwise - bids in an envelope back of a beer mat etc. FOlk could also indicated the image by linking to it from here etc. Just an idea that is open to others input!?

Well I would be happy to support the idea, as long there was enough support within the rest of the group.

Good idea Carl

Auction...

I would support the idea - but would not want the group to feel under pressure in any way. The thought of any prints not getting a reasonable bid - fills me with the heebies...

How is the individual photographer going to feel about that?

I thought that the images I saw last time were great, but I also thought that some were a little apprehensive about how the others would react to individual images they had created... However, everyone that showed images, DID have something special to contribute, so much so, that none should have any worries about this...

Could it be that the competitive element would put some off - joining in the sharing of great prints - I certainly hope not!

So, whilst I would contribute - would everyone else? Also which charity would we donate to?

Mark.

I'd go along with Mark's points here. The group is likely to be too small for any real cover of anonymity to be effective.

But there's another point ... money. Most people (I suspect) plan their charitable giving throughout the year, and many have little left as disposable. IOW, charitable bidding could not be a priority at a group social such as this.

(Correct me if I'm wrong.)

OK this is getting too difficult  My last suggestion would be a raffle - we could decide price of tickets late in the day dependent on number of prints - anyone putting a print up for raffle can choose there own charity and we split the money between all charities - not sure it can get any fairer without hurting any feelings to boot! If anyone sees a prblem with this then I thing we forget it!?

I think that the addition of auctions, raffles etc. for charity is an additional complication and a step too far for what is an informal social gathering for like minded photographers. Do we need to bring in a financial dimension?
Tony

I too feel that it would be wrong to complicate the viewing of prints, I would prefer to keep it as low key as possible; and not introduce any potential pressure on those that may already be apprehensive about showing their prints to the rest of the group.

Guys, I am apprehensive about joining the group as I will certainly feel out of my league although I am thrilled, excited, and curious about the photographic experience. This said I don't think that I'll be dary enough to show prints around.

Delphine,
That was my point, no one should feel in anyway apprehensive about showing their own work. There is no set agenda here, some of us bring our best prints to show them off; some bring prints with which they want help. Some have been known not to bring anything at all. It really is just an excuse for a photographic chatter. The only criteria are that you show Analog prints that are in the spirit of the APUG philosophy; and most importantly enjoy the experience.

Hi Delphine,

There's no compulsion whatsoever about showing any of your work, unless your name is Tony (Brook Hill) and it takes methods last used in the Spanish Inquisition to get you to finally show some of the very finest prints I've ever seen (and I've seen some very, very good ones)!

As your name isn't Tony you have nothing to fear!

If you get overawed by the magnificence of the traditional prints on display, don't worry - I usually show some as well to bring the average down a bit!

Please don't be apprehensive about any part of the Gathering - it kind of defeats the purpose! :D

Best regards,

Frank

This presumably means that film-originated digitally-printed work is unacceptable?
