Is it worth or recommend taking it to get the haze/dust cleaned ? Or it won't affect picture at all. I know the flash light magnifies the problem and makes it look a lot worse but I've been told that's how you check a lens when purchasing. Now I can't stop thinking about all the fog in the lens lol.

Looking at the haze- I would try to disassemble and clean.

Have you disassembled a Canonet lens before? Do you have a spanner? Also a pair of fine needle nosed pliers helps get the first retaining ring off that holds down the name ring.

No I haven't but I have a local camera repair shop, I've taken my ae1 for a shutter sq

It is impossible to know until opening up the lens and getting to the surface. Most of the time, the haze cleans off. With the type of glass that Canon used: sometimes it becomes etched.

Do you think it'll affect the pictures since it really only shows up with the flashlight ?

I think it will lower contrast. I've worked on several of these, 20 or so? It's been 10 years since I opened the last one. I kept one stand-out, and it is clear.

How much did you pay for this? If it was a premium, and advertised as optics in near mint condition: I would return it.

If it was a bargain, worth keeping. If if has problems, watch out for another one with clean glass and that has other problems.

The days of $20 Canonets are probably over. I sold a few for $75 that I flood cleaned the shutters and replaced bad glass. I do not have any spares for the Canonet 40/1.7. Found a parted out Olympus 40/1.7- the glass on the Olympus did not etch like the Canons.

Did you buy a second one of these? You also posted on another thread.

Cleaning the glass would cost more than the camera is worth. Even when the camera was new I doubt that it's worth it to have someone disassembles and clean it.

The Canonet Ql17 GIII has a good lens on it.

Wide-Open, usable. Not as sharp as a Minolta Hi-Matic 9 45/1.7.

With my Canonet, lens is clean. Wide-Open.

The first one I returned bcz it had one look liked fungus and some coating issues. This one I was more picky and asked the ebay seller a lot of question ans additional pictures he sent one of the lens but with light off to the side instead of a flashlight directly behind it. But I bought it bcz it looked clear and was listed as mint. I also noticed what sounds like a shutter squeak with slower shutter speeds like 30 ans slower. If that possible for this model I had thag issue with my ae1. But yeah it was about $200 imma just ask for a refund.

Are you completely set on a Canonet? This seems like the second one you've tried that had damaged glass.

The Minolta lenses just do not have the same problems. The Minolta AL-E is their small/fast/compact. The Meter works in Manual Mode.
And kind of really like the looks of the canonet it will be my first rangefinder tho. I just have a ae1 program and a Olympus and pentax point and shoot

I also trusted it bcz the body is completely mint. Simply beautiful

The Slow Speeds will have a winding sound, it uses a clockwork mechanism- kind of like a toaster oven.

For $200 you should expect better.

Have you tried a "Want to Buy" ad here, or on other Camera Forums?

Okay well thx for getting rid of that worry, that's exactly what it sounds like. N thank you for the advice I will seek a refund if not it's covered by ebay money back. Haven't had much luck with ebay. My ae1 I got lucky that it was a simple fix with the shutter squeak and didn't need a spare parts, but it was also listed as mint with no problems.

How about looking for cameras of this website's Classifieds?
