Thanks for the thread! It was really informative. I'd like to step in and add(I know I'm a year too late, but wht the heck) that they've started courses for camera technicians, which is amazing. This also seems to add to their credibility and their willingness to add to the film revival.

Cheers everyone! (This was my first post. I've never done forums, so be gentle)
Could you tell us a bit about why you never used forums?
There was quite a discussion recently, with very little actual market research data or numbers.

Absolutely!
My problem is with buying, looking it over, like the customer could do themselves at the point of purchase, and then marking up the price X times.
Most electronic P&S (the most popular kind of camera right now) are almost impossible or at least hard to repair. So if they are really training people in fixing that kind of camera, they are indeed doing a good deed.
Much of the P&S stuff, especially digital, is one way manufacture...never intended to be repaired.

OFFTOPIC: Never found a forum that was actually worth my time, I guess. It seems like a time consuming process to find where everything is after singing up. While searching for info on camera repair courses, I found their website and then started looking into them. That's how I got to this thread and from here, to the forum.
Thanks for having me and sorry for the offtopic

Well as the OP I can tell you this thread has run it’s course/filled it’s potential.
Anything on top is just gravy.
Let it go in any direction it wants.

I think you touch on an interesting not often discussed aspect:
That forums and their structure can be overwhelming and intimidating to people who are used to oversimplified, gimped used interfaces that market lack of features and structure as user friendliness.

Fora/message boards can on the other hand be overcomplicated and impose unnecessary structures on content.
Structures that often hinders thought and talk rather than encourage it.
And structures that doesn’t aid the find-ability and clarity they where intended for.

This forum could probably do with a bit fewer catergories and just kick out the purely digital part entirely or split it off again and go back to the original name.

Even I, a relatively new kid in the game respond more to “APUG” than “Photrio”. Even after three and a half years.
I never used APUG, so I don’t have any personal nostalgia. It’s just a better name.

I know about Sean’s original explanation, but I believe that was a momentary hiccup in time for a few years if anything.
Spreading out and becoming generic was never the answer to anything.
