How much does the camera/lens/shutter/film holder weigh?

I think I read the camera weighs 18 lbs. The lens and lens board are a little less than 1 1/2 lbs.

but what you really probably want is a Berlebach tripod and an inexpensive bogen 3 way head
they come up for sale here and large format.info's classifides pretty often, you just need to be patient .

Yeah, Berlebachs are a bargain used and are great tripods. I had one but moved up to a used Ries for the leg locks. I like the leg locks but they cost me! If you get a Berlebach with the leveling ball on it like the one I had, you may not need a head. Just make sure that the leveling ball can support the weight.

If you go Bogen then make sure that the head isn't one of those plastic ones that they made. I once had one on an aluminum Bogen tripod that I purchased cheap from a friend. The tripod was quite sturdy but the head flexed badly under the weight of my RZ67. I ended up giving it to my stepson for his 35mm camera.

Don't forget the film holder - a modern 8x10 Lisco/Fidelity will weigh at least 20 oz.

Take a look at this early photo catalog for inspiration http://piercevaubel.com/cam/catalogs/1923ekcproflp123.htm then go to the local home improvement store, get the materials and make a basic studio stand. Allthread and nuts can be used in place of the gear track for rise and tilt functions.

but get a bogen 3047 tripod head, cheap and sturdy ....
( there is one on FLEAbay currently, and attached to some sort of tripod for cheeps )

you want to big square QR plate, you can probably find one used

if you buy a tripod meant for LF and you decide 8x10 isn't for you
you can always sell this stuff and get pretty much all you put into it back,
cause there are always people looking ...

Yes, I used a Majestic with my C-1 and it was certainly up to the job. One thing about the Calumet C-1: The "foot", my term for the component that mounts on the tripod with the 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes, is an open frame sort of affair. It think you really want to have a tripod head with a top big enough to support all four corners of the "foot". Most Majestic heads are big enough. Some have smaller platform tops. The Ries Series A heads are also big enough. I used a 3/8-16 screw and would not have felt good about trusting a 1/4-20 to hold.

I still miss my C-1 from time-to-time until I remind myself that I've gotten to a point in my life that my knees no longer will support carrying such a load and it did go to a good home. $321 for that camera and lens plus film holders is beyond absurdly good in my opinion.

What about this one? I am seeing different versions and I can't tell from the pictures if it's sturdy enough and most are being sold by non photographers so they don't know for sure.

While that one has a large mount plate the long center column is not an asset and the legs look to be small diameter.
I stay away from listings that say " I don't know much about...." unless I'm very knowledgeable about the item listed.
