Buyer's remorse - Ever had it?

When Schneider first came out with the 165mm f8 Super Angulon (with its' huge coverage) I was working with 8x10 exclusively and had been using the 165mm f6.8 Angulon for quite a while. I worked hard, saved my Deutschmarks, sold my 165mm Angulon and my 210mm Angulon (both single-coated, hand selected by me and in pristine condition) lenses and ordered a 165mm f8 Super Angulon. I hated it from the outset and never managed to make one photograph that I was really happy with. I have no idea why I was so disappointed with that lens but fortunately I was able to sell it without taking a loss and - eventually - I reclaimed the Angulons. I also learned a valuable lesson... never to buy such an expensive lens without negotiating a trial. Now, just a bit shy of 80, I look back and am amazed at my "blind trust" and willingness to leap into such deep water at a time when entry level pay for a young soldier was $78/month (before taxes and Social Security).

A hard lesson, but you managed to come out on the better side in the end. Many cannot say that.
