I have an ETRSi and would like to know if PG lenses will fit on this body w/or w/out an adapter?
Secondly, do Bronica speed grips have a 1/4x20 thread hole on their base?
TY for your replies (and Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!)

My understanding is the lenses do not interchange between format families. Since I only own a 6x6 SQ series I'm not sure of what the actual mechanics are to effect that. It could be slight physical differences in the mount diameter, bayonet tab size or registration distance or gosh knows what. Given the shutter drive and aperture linkages and seeing the cost of simple extension tubes, I suspect if an adapter was theoretically possible, it would cost nearly as much the specified lens. In the orphan/used market there does not appear to be much proportionality in the pricing of Bronica gear -- often a body costs less than a simple waist level finder!

The Speed grip for my SQ-A has a 1/4-20 hole on the base.

Note also, any attempt to put smaller format lenses on a larger format could run out of image circle. Given the market state of Bronica gear I can't picture anyone trying to make an adapter as a commercial venture, but I suppose some hobbyist somewhere might have tried. There have been times I have wondered if lenses interchanged between the ET**, SQ** and GS** Bronica might still be around.

Yes, the ETR speed grip has standard 1/4x20 thread hole on base. I've attached a Really Right Stuff BP-CS multi camera conventional plate to it...plays very nice with BH-40 head and qr clamp.

The motor winder EI II for my ETRSi also has a 1/4-20 tripod socket. It's roughly in the centre of the winder, so not in the centre of the camera body when it it mounted on the winder.

PG lenses will not mount on the ETRSi. Interchangeable lenses with the GS-1 would require that the mount diameter be large enough for the 6x7 imaging circle, and that the flange focal plane distance be the same as for the GS1, which has to provide space for the 6x7 mirror. So the ETRSi body would have to be essentially the same size as the GS-1 body if it were to accommodate PG lenses without an adapter.

Regards,
Andrew

Haven't all of us Bronica users yearned almost hourly for this. I know I have. This would have been the coup of all photography for all time, but it never happened and it is just too bad. For my work I have all three cameras and use them a lot... my favorite? {probably the GS1. It is by far the best for what I do. But a really good question....

I appreciate the sound answers you have all given me.
As a quick reason for the lens question, it would have been nice if PG lenses could fit the 645. The PG image circle being larger than the ETR image circle would have been similar to putting 35mm lenses on the 1.6 crop sensor of those ***ital cameras. The lens sweet spot-center- would have been used across the film plane of the smaller format for better(theoretical) resolution. Never hurts to inquire.

Concerning the base thread hole on speed grips/motorwinders, I plan on purchasing a 6x7 GS-1 and getting the L bracket for verticals. Thanks again for your help.

the easiest way to use GS lenses in 645 Is to just buy a GS-1 and put the GS 645 back on the on the camera. There was also a 6x6 also made for the gs1,as well.

I have both the 6X6 and 6X4.5 backs for the GS-1. The focusing screens made for use with these finders do not show up very often but it's easy to make a mask and just drop it in over the focusing screen. If I remember its orientation, the 6X4.5 back holds the film in portrait orientation. It's a little awkward for shooting in landscape orientation because the camera has to be rotated 90 degrees. It's easier to use an ETR series camera for that format.
