Just got back from vacation and there was an envelope in the mail all the way from Australia. Three very nice prints from Awty. All from around the rural town of Tenterfield in northern NSW. They're on his Flickr page as "Twined", "Buckled" and "Embroidery" but the real prints look much nicer. Well printed and split toned in selenium and sepia. Thanks Paul !

Im glad they made it Menno, I used the cheaper postage option to make these photo exchanges more affordable. Im getting happier with my printing, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Sooo ... my package to twelveone12 was rejected by Customs and returned to me this week. If at first you don't succeed ... Looking forward to another trip to the Post Office this week.

Usually, it is the description (tariff item code) and valuation that is rejected.

I received a beautiful, but unfortunately damaged, print this morning in the mail from Rodolfo Zitellini.

When my wife took the package back to the post office with the original receipt, the worker recognized that the package was addressed to Switzerland but the receipt showed the package was going to ... wait for it ... Honduras. They placed it back in the system with the correct customs destination at no charge.

I am sending my prints out today.
Apologies to Howard for the late reply, to say that his offering has arrived okay, but I have been away.

But many thanks to you Howard for the two prints that you have sent to me. Being well packaged they have arrived uncreased from you in the RoC to me in the UK.

The prints are a little bit bigger than my folder that holds the majority of prints received and sent, which are usually 10" x 8" or smaller. As it happens Howard has left large white borders around the prints, so I should be able to trim them down to size, so they fit = something I don't like to do, but it is only the margins and not the print I shall be trimming.

One print is of a Shinto priest in Japan, taken from behind him as he kneels to start his ritual. He is surrounded by various lamps and fabric hangings, which must be glorious in colour, but also work well here in black and white.

The second print, which I prefer, if given a choice, has been taken from within a forest and was taken on a course with Bruce Barnbaum, Howard says.

I really like the darker tones in this print, which has lovely foreground detail and a curtain of upright trees at the rear. The light appears diffused but there is a good range of tones, from small areas of highlights, right through to deep shadows. I have held it up and can see that it would look really nice framed and hung on a wall. I say this with admiration Howard, as this type of picture is not one that I am partial to take myself, but I like it very much.

So many thanks once more Howard and I'm sure we'll cross paths again in the future.

Terry S
