I have just sent out a PM to all members so if you didn't get one please let me know ASAP. Do not send your print until October 6th to allow for address corrections just in case, heaven forbid, I screwed something up or someone moved since they sent their address and forgot to tell me. Your PM will also contain your own address; please check it and notify me at once if it is incorrect or out of date.

Please keep us informed and post here when you've sent or received your print.
Optionally, once the print makes it to the destination, you can upload the image of the print to this thread and the Gallery:sad:there was a url link here which no longer exists)
(You have to be a paying member to be able to upload to the Gallery)

The original BPX Introduction Thread is here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I wish you all a lot of fun in this BPX with printing, sending & receiving

BPX21 assignment
Hi,
Here is your address and the address of your recipient.
If your address needs correcting, PM me ASAP!
Please wait until October 6th before sending.

Your address:
(...)

Your assignment:
(...)

It’s not obligated, but it would be nice to include a note or a letter explaining what, when, where & how then image/print was made. And maybe telling a bit about who and where you are? It’s always nice to receive a letter with your print.
Please don’t forget to mention your name, so the recipient knows who the sender is.

Please try to print and mail your image before the deadline. Someone else is making an effort to send you a print as well.
If life interferes with your darkroom time, don’t worry. It happens. Health, family and work are important too. Just let us know you will be running late. If for some reason you can’t fulfill your obligation at all, just PM me as soon as possible.

Please post on the BPX21 thread when you actually dropped off the package at the post office and when you received a print from another member. Mounting and boarding the print is not obligated, but would be a nice bonus. Please pack the print carefully. If you ”just” stick it in an envelope, all corners will be bent on arrival. At least stick it between two layers of oversized cardboard for protection.

It would be nice if you could scan your print before sending it, and post the image (after the recipient confirmed receiving it) to the BPX21 thread (and the APUG Gallery). If you can’t scan the image, you could make a photo of it with a digital camera, to give us an impression of your gift.

Thank you,
Bert from Holland (TheToadMen)

Thanks Bert! There are no problems with my address.

I have spent the last couple of nights making a print to send on the 6th. I think I'm happy but I'll take another look after the weekend and make sure it's the one I want.

Looking forward to this!

I didn't send a print in October. After further reflection I decided it wasn't the one to send and I'm glad I didn't. I've now made something I like a lot better.

Happy to report that, as of today, my print is now headed somewhere across the Atlantic Ocean. Fingers crossed that it makes it!

My carefully laid plan of printing over the xmas holiday failed, too much holiday and family and not enough darkroom time.

I'll ship my print as soon as I can.

Hi everyone. I wish you all the best for 2015!!

Could everyone tell me his/her status, if you've sent your print and/or received one, by sending me a PM?
If you haven't been able to send one yet, don't worry but please let me know. Sometimes life intervenes, I know.
I posted mine just recently as well.

If for some reason you won't be able to fulfill your obligation in this BPX please PM me ASAP, so I can arrange something.

I'll make an update at the end of the week.

Somehow I got unsubscribed from this thread... weird... anyway, I have not sent my print as I lost my previous darkroom and haven't been able to get my 8x10 saltzman up and running yet, is it ok to send two 8x10's instead of the larger 11x14 I had planned? Or should I wait another month and when I can actually print, then send the 11x14?

Also as a side note, I still have not received the print from the previous BPX from the other person, nor the current BPX.

Stone,

As far as I remember, there are no minimum or maximum size limitations in BPX. Do what works best. This time I sent 8x10 prints, since the current set works best at this size. A few exchanges back I sent 20x30. Whatever works best for you.

Eugene.

Thanks, my impression was that 11x14 or larger was expected because it was a single print (VS many for say the postcard exchange) so that's why I asked.

Print size is covered in the (there was a url link here which no longer exists):

Generally, a decent 8x10 or larger is the norm. Send whatever you feel like printing to get your vision across. If your neg looks best as a 4x4 inch square print or as a 24x36 inch print, just do it and have fun.

Hey all,
Wanted to apologize for being late in sending my print. The print is ready, but want to see if I can get an even better one... Anyway, it will be in the mail very soon

It's been five weeks since I shipped my print. If it hasn't arrived by now I fear it has been lost or damaged in the mail.

I'll start printing another one, I guess.

Did you PM the recipient asking if he received it? Maybe he did receive it but wasn't able (or forgot) to post here?

Apologies to Adelorenzo (I have sent a PM as well), print received a week or so ago and been a little busy and not been able to find a few spare moments to post a reply.

Received a super print from the Yukon, beautiful range of tones and detail and so pleased to have received it. The print is currently on display in the dining room being enjoyed by all who pass through. Thanks for sharing and just love these print exchanges.

Thanks for sharing.

Nw for another apology, I'm a little behind, but in my defence I did shoot before Christmas and printed and then decided I didn't like what I produced so have reshot, film is developed, so now only need to print. Hopefully my contribution will be in the post by the end of the month. Cheers John

Question spurred by John's post: I participate in several print exchanges, and sometimes get confused about the 'rules' written and unwritten on each. For this print exchange, I have often taken the opportunity to revisit an older negative and reprint it. There is another where we are strongly encouraged to print a new negative. Is there an expectation in this exchange that the entire process be taken from current work? - Would I be cheating if I were to open up my archives and pull out a print that I did years ago, and to use that for my submission?

Part of why I ask, is that I may be moving, and am facing the possibility of spending some time without a darkroom - would it be legit for me to do some prints in advance of moving so I can still keep a hand in this print exchange (albeit a dry hand), while I am without a darkroom?

Hi Mark,
We always like to motivate people to make new great photographs, but there is no obligation to send "new" work in this BPX. "Old" work is just fine as long as it is of analogue nature

I've never given it a great deal of thought but it has always seemed a natural thing to go out and obtain new images to send as my contribution to the exchange. Bert is right, it does motivate and I find this to be one of the appeals of the exchanges plus of course receiving beautiful prints from like minded individuals in far off places.

Hi John, I agree.
I guess it depends on what your interest is. Sometimes I'm more interested in discovering/practicing different printing techniques and the chosen negative is almost irrelevant. I then don't even mind if it is a negative from someone else. On other instances I like to make a special image regardless the printing technique later on. And sometimes I just want to gout and wander off with a certain camera.

Anyway, I like to go out and use the BPX as an assignment to show what I personally like in photography and to make a negative as a mean to make a beautiful print for the BPX.

Besides all that it can also be rewarding to go back to an old negative and try to print it in a completely new way.
Maybe a negative that seemed unprintable but now may come to a beautiful print. Or using a completely different printing proces.
I for once want to try lith printing sometimes this year. I have some negatives I used for regular printing, alt-photo processes (gum, albumen, carbon, salt) and I would like to see how it will look as a lith print.

I am very sorry, but I am very late to send the print.
I have one ready since October, but I wasn't too happy about it and wanted to do another one when temperatures dropped in the cellar.
I promise that I will send the print soon. :whistling:
