Why nobody says Jeanloup Sieff? Not natural light or not to your taste?

All right so you're telling me, although he used daylight, he might as well have used artificial light because his photos are so manipulated right?

No, I am saying that even if he used natural light, the result of whatever it is that he does is anything but natural in appearance. That's all. N.b. I did not express any like/dislike of his work, I simply do not [personally!] find it in keeping with the general objectives of available light photography.

Sorry Rorye - wasn't being a you-know-what. As I skimmed through the posts I must have missed your post - or thought it was a different photographer. Sorry again mate.

Not at all Bob, I meant that with humour
Once again, the lack of inflection on the web gets me.
I thought it funny because "Snowdon Sittings" is a book I look at literally every week, you'd think I could spell his name!
Best,
Rory

Oh yes, do check out Cheryl Jacobs' latest offerings in the galleries!

Also amongst us, Nicole Boenig-McGrade does mostly natural light work, I believe.

And also, Judith Joy Ross. I've chosen one her photos for an assignment in my Photo level 2 class.

A bit of edge, but need to mention Helmut Newton. Love him or hate him, there is no mistaking the uniqueness of his style. In the age of complicated studio fashion and portrait shoots, he preferred one camera and natural light.

There are so many good ones, but check out the work of Jane Bown, I greatly admire her,and she works almost exclusively with just an Olympus OM1 and 85mm f2 lens.

Not all of Sieff's work has the "halo"...much of it involves, in fact, beautiful natural light. Actually, much of his studio work that is "lit" has the halo burning he was so fond of for a while...

Either way, the large Sieff book by Taschen is probably the best photo book bargain in the world, $25 for a huge book, beautifully printed, with hundreds of large, wonderful photographs!

Charles, the link works, I was able to get in. Quite an impressive body of work, many famous people there.

Didn't work for me either, no matter how many times I tried, on both Explorer and Firefox.

How about Jean-Francois Jonvelle? Perhaps not all his photographs are portraits (or would be classified primarily as such), but they are beautiful.
