I have a 8069 Negative carrier (120 film) for the 23C of which I cannot find the official description. Anyone know for certain?

I also have the 8070, which is also 120, and has the official description of a "6x7" carrier.

They are very close with the 8069 being slightly larger in the height of the frame; not filed out.

Just measured them with my crappy digital calipers and the 8069 is 67 x 55mm, the 8070 is 67 x 53mm rounding off the last two digits...

Emailed Beseler; I will see what they say.

Here is a link to their current online catalog...no mention of an oversize 120 carrier. Link here: https://www.beselerphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/BESELER-Photo-Brochure_PrintUpload.pdf

Thank you; yes, I saw that. I suspect that like most long lived organizations, the records of every negative carrier they manufactured might not survive in their archives and was hoping someone here would know the answer. I emailed Beseler and will see if they respond.

Beseler responded:

"We have an 8060, but not an 8069. The 8060 we have is for 2 ¼” x 2 ¼” (6 x 6cm). The 8070 is for 2 ¼” x 2 ¾” (6 x 7cm). Hope this helps.

Well, either Beseler has lost the institutional knowledge or I have a counterfeit negative holder.

Maybe it's for the old sheet film variant of 6x7?

The film format for which I found the closest match to the 55 mm x 67 mm cited for the measured dimensions of the opening in the negative carrier is that of the Fuji 680 camera, given as 56 mm x 76 mm. Internet information indicates that this camera was introduced in 1986. I don’t know if other 6 x 8 cm cameras existed prior to the Fuji 680.

The 8069 carrier shown is old enough that it has the older “piano hinge.” The newer Beseler negative carriers have the stainless steel flat-spring hinge that holds the carrier slightly open when the upper plate of the negative stage is raised.

It also has the older single-diameter guide pins. In contrast, the newer Beseler negative carriers have the 2-diameter guide pins that retain the negative vertically, keeping it under the larger diameter heads.

If I owned a Fuji 680, I would use the 8074 6 x 9 cm glass carrier, or the anti-Newton-ring 8072 version.

Thank you, Ian for this information! The carrier came with my 45MX with a Minolta 45 head place on it. Sounds like about the right era...

I'm not sure when the 6x8 backs for the Mamiya RB67 came into being, but it might have been around 1986 as well.

Must be a one off factory special. If it had a Carson City CC mint mark you'd be rich!!!

Probably 60 year old pack film holder or something weird like that. No one left who knows.

It's like calling up General Motors and asking for torque specs for a 1957 Pontiac. 😊
