....that it is now once again available in general - anywhere, if not very soon?

Provia was back for a few minutes but sold out already. Didn't hear about Velvia

I missed that announcement and I’m on their email list. Where did you see it?

I don't know about USA, but here in Europe, Fuji slide films have been sporadically available. But the small quantities any retailer gets, make them disappear as soon as they appear. Also, there are often strict limits by retailers, that they sell 2 or 3 rolls per client. The situation is far from "freely available".

I didn’t see any announcement. B&H got Velvia and Provia in multiple formats in stock on Wednesday. It sold out in minutes. This exact same thing happens every couple months and has been happening that way for a couple years at least.

As far as I can tell, and I watch this closely, the situation is exactly the same as it has been. Provia and Velvia are not dead or discontinued, but they trickle out and sell out very quickly so are hard to get.

Here's what B&H sent me - turns out there were only 20 boxes available,
where & how they got them, well, anyone can guess....

Yea I was upset about them discontinuing Neopan 400. But this whole E-6 thing is just silly to me. I don’t shoot E-6 but quit messing with people. Just make the film available on regular basis or discontinue it. Apparently they do the same thing with some or all of their digital cameras?

Unfortunately beggars can't be choosers!

If you need slide film, as I do for viewing MF stereo photos in an optical viewer (much higher quality than any digital display) then it's either Provia or Ektachrome, both with a box speed of only ISO100. Provia gives a slightly warmer look, which some people prefer, but of course you can use a warming filter with Ektachrome if you wish, but that reduces the effective ISO to perhaps 64.

I would rather have sporadic availability of Provia than none at all. For the past 5 years I've always had an in-date stock of Provia sufficient for my needs (around 20-25 rolls of 120 a year), typically buying a couple of boxes 2-3 times per year as they become available at random times.

One just needs to be patient!

I spotted an intricate grass scene yesterday with a remarkably delicate hue interplay which could be captured well only on Velvia. But it also needed the plane of focus movements and detail capacity of a view camera with sheet film. I didn't even bring along any camera - incessant wind there along the shoreline - wonderful light and very comfortable walking temperature, but not even an intermittent second of grass and twigs holding still.

Would you like to buy my Velvia 50 in 4x5. I have a box frozen waiting.

I think its old film they keep finding, it just takes a while to print new boxes.😂

Thanks, Alan, but no. With Cibachrome gone, I'd have no way to print it without generating a costly internegative firstly. And there's simply no way those kind of subtle hues would come across in an inkjet print following a scan.

Fujifilm creates desire for it's digital cameras with the seemingly unobtainable Fuji E-6 films. At retail in US $1 (USD) per frame without processing! I'm shooting up my Fuji Provia and Velvia then I'm probably done with Fuji. I have 350 feet of Ektachrome 35mm in the freezer, should last me a while.

I really like current Ektachrome so no big deal.

Kodak professional C-41 emulsions are as good as it gets.

Thanks to you, DF;

that's goood news! Though I have still 12 pro-packs of each 5 120-rollfilms of Fuji Velvia 100 in my deep frezer - however I will try to add up to 20 packs for a journey to SCotland next year.

Wow, that's at least 60 rolls, that should last a while!

I bought some old #10 (I think that's the number) metal spools (100 feet) that were used in the old Bell and Howell hand held 35mm movie cameras, and carefully spooled off the film from the 400 foot spools. Works great, spools drop into my bulk film loaders.

Welp! Velvia 50 120 is now dropshipping in Europe. I had a short exchange with the French store that is behind Amazon's listing, who acknowledge that there is no stock... But they were getting a couple propacks in stock this week. Also retail price increased; as I say, many places have listed Fujichrome cheap because it was not available and thus its prices were not updated, unlike Ektachrome.

Lo and behold, somehow I ended at Fuji's own store (Spain), and they had it in stock so I've ordered a pack. 80€ 5x120. If that goes well, might order more.

Ironically enough, I haven't shot Velvia in what would be a decade. Provia is just more generally useful and I have relegated E6 for more special uses given the price and limited availability.

So thanks Chris for the nudge!

Provia 100f in 120 size is available to order on amazon.it at €95 for a box of 5, or €175 for two boxes, €6 shipping in EU. Still too expensive for me, I'll wait for the usual sources, but anyone desperate for Provia 120 size might want to order it?

There are Amazon listings today that appear to come directly from Fujifilm Japan itself. Around $40 for 36 exposure 35mm rolls and showing as in stock. Japanese writing on the box. A little out of my price range even for half frame, but I might do $30.
