How do you input pride, fear, morality, joy, heart, intuition, love and other feelings into a computer? Until you can give it a soul and feelings as a basis for decision-making, you can't match human development and choices. For example, we ask AI how we should handle the economy. How does AI input concern for the poor in making decisions rather than focusing on just what increases productivity and wealth overall? Does AI care for its fellow man (computer)? 😉 We're converting human existence to 0s and 1s and mathematical logic, assuming that because it's smart, it's human. But smart isn't sentience. My cellphone is smart. So what?

The other day I hurt myself and let out a loud groan. My cellphone perked up and told me, “feel better.”

As a child I recall the "New Coke" vs. "Old Coke" scandal. One of the biggest activists in the drama was given a blind taste test.

"He founded the "Old Cola Drinkers of America" organization and was a very prominent voice in the backlash. Mullins was given a blind taste test by Coca-Cola executives, and he actually picked New Coke as his preferred drink over the original formula he was fighting so hard to bring back."

I'd wager in a couple of years we would all fail any sort of blind test regarding wether a deeply moving piece of film making was a 100% ai or a 100% human made work. Will the masses care?

This all brings more questions than answers I guess.

Love that mini-movie, but today's AI is a black hole for resources, and there's no clear indication of when, or if, the situation will be resolved. If operated as for-profit ventures, perhaps it will be more economical to turn to human power for many tasks.

But Jia Jhangke's mini-feature is a bit like the small one-gulp sample portions of New Coke or Crystal Pepsi: These things tested great, but the flavor of the fizzy drinks fell flat as people started consuming them in regular-sized portions alongside their usual foods. IIRC, there was something cloying about both drinks, and once you noticed it, the thought of drinking more was sort of nauseating. Too soon to know how full-length cinema features will fare.
