I'm at work and don't have time to check all the pages so please ignore if it was already covered. I have noticed that I'm getting the cloudfire no cached page available screen rather often but using another browser indicates the site is available. Clearing my cookies for apug solves this issue so I think the cookie is getting corrupt somehow. It's happening in the latest version of Firefox on both my home and work computers (both Mac Pros).

I've gotten very few reports lately of that message so thought it had died down. I have a monitoring service that hit's a specific text page on APUG every 5 minutes (from 20 different global locations) and pages me if that page and it's exact text is not served. I have yet to be paged. If you see this again can you relay the times you are getting it? On the cloudflare page there is a link (bottom right of the notice) that you can click to try reloading apug again. If you do not click that and apug is back up it will still appear to be down -by clearing your cookies you reset that page (same as clicking the link in the notice) then APUG comes back. At this point I just need some semi-exact times of the error so I can crosscheck it with the server to see if anything unusual was happening then.

When I've read a thread through to the last message, the title of the thread remains bold in the list of threads instead of changing to plain type.

At so far unpredictable times, as I'm hitting the back button to go back to the list of threads, I sometimes get a message asking if I want to do that as I will lose any changes made in the editor (and I wasn't posting anything). It does go back just fine if I click ok. I'm using Safari on a mac. I think I've gotten another sorta random message, but I don't remember what it was.

I think this is caused by the new editor as it auto-saves. It must be auto-saving nothing then glitching. Will have a look into it.

Ok, made some adjustments to Cloudflare. Now if APUG is down, it's down -you will not get a cloudflare notice page saying the site is unavailable (supposedly). I've also tweaked a few other things. It's a huge help that if anyone experiences downtime for any period of time that they let me know. Thanks guys!

Yesterday I was editing a post I had just made, and the edit screen was not formatting text corectly.

It would show long lines of test as though it forgot a carriage return, and then put the stuff that normally would wrap on the next line again on the following line.

When your cursor went past it the wrap problem would be corrected, but where to drop the cursor in at first was very confusing.

It definitely needs a look. Since this "lose any changes" error consistently pops up in the APUG Video section (try editing the description of a video you added yourself, it won't work period even if one has made changes), you can possibly use that to debug the editor issue.

Flush the browser caches and cookies should do it for most of the above issues.
Some of the popular browsers don't obey Apache http headers.

as for Video section it's a bit of a mess. I am in contact with the developer of an app called vbtube. He is within days of releasing an importer. Once that is ready I'll install vbtube and import the old system into that. It seems a much superior system as well.

Right now (between 17:20 and 17:45 CET, GMT + 1), APUG is loading incredibly slow at my location. I see nothing out of the ordinary when doing a ping or a traceroute (the latter ending up at cf-173-245-60-43.cloudflare.com (173.245.60.43) ), but getting a page loaded, doing a search, posting a reply all takes anything from 10 seconds to well over a minute. I don't have trouble loading other websites, so I suppose it is not a problem at my end. Just thought I'd mention it (if I can post it...).

I noticed this as well but it seems ok now. One of the data centers at cloudflare had an attack. I think when this happens cloudflare stops serving our static content until the attack is mitigated. This just happened to occur during some peak APUG time and our server then had to pick up the slack, this put our server load way up during that time. It's highlighted that I should alter my server monitoring to ping me on a high server load. If that happens then I can hop onto the server and raise the server spec for a short time until things settle. Thanks for the info.

ok, cpu load monitoring is now up and running via a check script and pingdom. Basically the server will start to slow with a cpu load over 2.50 If the load passes 2.50 for more than 4minutes I'll get an sms on my cellphone and can look into it.

I have another monitor that checks a full page loads on APUG with specific text. That pings APUG every minute. I also plan one more monitor that will alert me if a page on APUG takes longer than 20 seconds to load.

Not only that, these checks are done by 40 different global locations, so we should be fairly covered.

Between all this we should be covered.

We just had some sort of issue but it seems to be back up now. Will continue to monitor...

Are you sure you want to take up this at this point of time with the other last bit and pieces of the server migration possibly needing attention? Although I have reported a couple of issues since the APUG Video section went up quite some time ago, with the search functionality now sorted out, and the possibility that the editor issues might be fixed along the way once you sort the vBulletin editor issues out, it runs fairly well at this point. At least for the YouTube videos I have been adding, there doesn't seem to be a real issue at this point...

But as kraker said "You don't take half measures, do you? :wink:"

Ok, I have decided to disable the Cloudflare content delivery system. It seems we are plagued with too many micro-outages from various locations:

Dead Link Removed

The red marks indicate small outages from various global locations. I did not realize it was this bad until I tweaked our monitoring. Now that I have removed cloudflare I will monitor the server to see how it handles the extra load. Worst case I just have to bump up the spec a notch which can be done on the fly.

Hmm. Can you try saving your avatar, renaming it, re-uploading it. That might kick it over. I can see it fine at the moment but I know a few people had some issues. If you right click on your avatar and get the image properties, what does the file path say? Thanks

The effect is certainly temporary - e.g. for my most recent post above it is now fine.

EDIT: and less than one minute later, after leaving and then re-entering this thread, it has gone from just being a link to an avatar again.

I have the same thing. If I refresh the page it appears. This happened before the migration.

ok the avatar thing is apparent resolved in vBulletin 4.1.8 so I should be able to get us onto that in a few days
