Pending receipt of payment, the 210mm f4.5 Tessar/Doctar lenses are also sold out. Additional requests for these lenses will be serviced in the order received should any sales fall through.

Wow! The response has been overwhelming. I don't have an exact total, but I think I've sold in excess of 30 lenses in the hour since I posted the first listing in the APUG classifieds.

As mentioned above, pending payment, the 1000mm APO Germinars and 210mm Tessars are all spoken for. The 600mm APO Germinars are also selling fast and will likely be the next to sell out. The 300mm APO Germinar cells are over half gone. I still have several of the The 150mm Germinar-Ws and 750mm APO Germinars left. The 240mm Germinar-Ws are selling fast, but are plentiful and will not likely sell out within the next few days.

I am literally swamped with requests. I will honor the requests in the order received. Your continued patience is apprciated as I sort this all out, send shipping quotes to buyers and pack and ship the lenses.

The response from the APUG community has been amazing (who would expct anything else). I'll do my best to try to keep up.

Thank you Kerry for this opportunity, It is very much appreciated!

I'm going to be one who needs shutters (one zero, and two number ones) and engraving, so count me in when we start organizing for SK Grimes.

And once more, thanks again Kerry!

Just a quick update - I have started sending out shipping quotes. Sorry I haven't gotten back to everyone, yet. Please be patient. I've been packing up and weighling lenses all afternoon/evening. So, far, only the 210mm Tessars/Doctars and 1000mm APO Germinars have sold out. The 600mm Germinar is nearly sold out. There are plenty of lenses (so far) for everyone who has requested 150mm Germinar-W, 240mm Germinar-W and 300mm APO Germinar lenses. I'll try to get caught up on the shipping quotes tonight and tomorrow.

Also, international buyers, have no fear, I haven't sent out shipping quotes yet (it's little more complicated than domestic shipping), but you will not lose your place in the queue due to my slow response - the lenses will be sold in the order you responded, regardless of when you get the shipping quote back from me.

Thanks again for your interest in these lenses. I promise to get them to you as soon as I can.

OK, I think I'm caught up (for now). I believe I have sent shipping quotes to everyone who has contacted me (as of 11:00am PST today) either by email or PM. If you sent me a request, but have not received a reply (either email or PM) with a shipping quote, please re-send.

I also shipped the first lenses this morning. If I received your payment by 11:00pm PST last night, your lenses are on their way. If you pay befoe 11:00pm tonight, your lenses will be shipped tomorrow.

Apologies to those who wanted 1000mm APO Germinars and 210mm Tessars, but did not get them. I could have easily sold twice as many of both if I had them. These two are officially sold out. Everything else is still available.

Many thanks Kerry.

I will also need a shutter. As I live in the UK I expect I will source it in Europe. However, I would like to add my order to SK Grimes for aperture scales for a No.1 Copal. Is it worth a group order? I realise someone would have the hassle of handling the order in the US.

SK Grimes,
I have called them this morning, and I can confirm that they already have all the information they need at least for the 150mm, 240mm and the 300mm. So you just need to contact them (I'm getting my shutters from SK Grimes).

I also asked about the possibility of another group discount and mentioned the fact that likely they will be getting many more calls. They said they would get back to me on that.

At any rate, I have already put my order in with SK Grimes and nothing more is needed on my part.

Truly amazing. At the same time tragic. Docter Optic failed to survive as a company the death of the last owner or the purchase by a competitor. I hope everyone cherishes their lenses. Kerry has worked hard to keep us all foolishly happy.

Who would've ever guessed that someone actually made a multi-coated GClaron look alike? Or offered a completely nutter 210mm F/4.5 Tessar in a #3 shutter? Or had lenses as long as 1000mm's. Only the truly devoted or over the top insane would ever do such things.

Alas, there seems little interest from the "big guys" in the market to keep this kind of engineering development lunacy afloat. :-(

Um, Chris, the "big guys" don't have Kerry as a salesman or APUG as a salesroom.

Cheers,

Yes, they are definitely missing out on an opportunity here. They could (and should) sponsor APUG, and I'm easily recognized by the "Will Work for Glass" sign around my neck.

If I'm lucky enough to get a 300 F9, I'd be interested in an aperture scale and possibly the Copal #1 as well if the cost is reasonable.
Thanks,
Ned

Why do I have a feeling that Dagor77 (on eBay) didn't buy one of the Tessars?

Earlier this year, I sold several (there was a url link here which no longer exists), (there was a url link here which no longer exists) and (there was a url link here which no longer exists) lenses here on APUG. The lenses seemed to be very well received and I am happy to say that well over half of all the lenses sold went to APUG subscribers. In fact, after all of the lenses were sold, I had several people contact me to see if more lenses were available.

I now have an opportunity to get more of these lenses, as well as a VERY, VERY limited number of longer (600mm, 750mm and 1000mm) APO Germinars. I can also get a few shutter mounted 210mm f4.5 Docter Optics Tessars as well.

Before I go to the trouble of having these lenses sent to me from their owner in Germany, I want to assess the interest from members of the APUG community. This is not an offer to sell any of these lenses at this time. Prices for the longer lenses have not yet been determined, but I expect them to be very attractive for new lenses of such long focal length and asociated big coverage. I suspect the prices for the 150mm Germinar-W, 240mm Germinar-W and 300mm APO Germinar will be about the same as they were perviously (see links above). At this point, all I am tying to do is determine if there is enough of a market for these lenses to go to the trouble and expense of having them shipped to me to re-package and distribute to members of the APUG community.

So, if you have any interest in buying any of these lenses:

150mm f9 Germinar-W
240mm f9 Germinar-W
300mm f9 APO Germinar Cell Sets
600mm f9 APO Germinar in Barrel
750mm f9 APO Germinar in Barrel
1000mm f12 APO Germinar in Barrel
210mm f4.5 Docter Tessar in Copal No. 3 Shutter

Please post here or send me a PM. Also, comments from previous purchasers of the 150mm Germinar-W, 240mm Germinar-W and 300mm APO Germinar lenses I sold here earlier this year are welcome. Keep in mind your responses are in no way a firm commitment to buy anything. No deposits will be taken and no pecking order asigned. If I do decide to proceed, I will place listings in the classifieds with all the details and pricing only after I have the lenses in my possession and they will be sold on a first-come-first-seved basis.

All these lenses are new, unused as they left the Docter Optics factory. It should be noted that the 150mm Germinar-W and 240mm Germinar-W lenses come in barrels, but the cells screw directly into standard Compur and Copal shutters. The 300mm APO Germinars come as factory-matched cell sets and they also are a direct fit in standard Copal/Compur No. 1 shutters. The 210mm Tessars come in Copal No. 3 shutters. The 600mm, 750mm and 1000mm APO Germinars come in very heavy barrel mounts, the cells are difficult to remove and mounting them in shutters would require both a very big shutter as well as much expensive custom machine work. They are best used in their original barrels with either a large behind the lens shutter (such as a Packard or Compur No. 5 Electric), a front mounted shutter (such as a LUC) or with a lens caps or felt hat for the long exposures typical when shooting ULF formats. Due to the weight, they require a camera with a sturdy front standard and they are not suitable for backpacking or carrying long distances from the vehicle (unlike the 150mm Germinar W, 240mm Germinar-W and 300mm APO Germinar, which are all small, light and perfect for backpacking/hiking).

So, if you're interested, let me know. I'll tally the response over the next week or so and make a decision.

Thanks,
Kerry
Kerry,
I bought one of the 150mm lenses and would be very interested in buying a 240mm W if you get anymore.

Note to international (non-US) buyers: Please include your phone number when requesting a shipping quote. It is required for Global EMS shipping and it will speed the process along if I have it up front when you send your address.

Thanks,
Kerry

What's so "nutter" about a 210mm f:4.5 Tessar in #3 shutter? I have a Xenar, and it's great. Even greater (in both senses of the word) is the 300mm f:4.5 Xenar, in a #5 Compound shutter.

I've also recently seen a 1200mm f:16 Apo-Ronar for sale...

I'm considering joining also, will need for 240mm Germinar, however have yet found the shutter to acquire..
Is attaching the scale to the shutter easy enough to do by a non-qualified in fine mechanics person ? What is the procedure ?

How can I distinguish modern Copal #1 shutter the scale will be intended for from an older one ?

Regards, Alex

P.S. Adam, can you please to disclose the actual discount price (or PM) ?

Alexz,
Yes, removing the old aperture scales is fairly straightforward. There are two scales mounted on the sides of the shutter, top and bottom. Both are held in place with two small screws. Be careful in removing the scales, because once loosened, the curved metal of the scale will pull at the screws and kick them to places where you will never find them!

Newer Copal 1 shutters have the scales mounted on the sides of the shutter directly opposite each other. Older Copal 1 shutters will have one scale mounted on the "face" of the shutter, opposite the cocking lever. It takes the form of a semi-circular "smile" on the face of the shutter (facing the shutter directly from the front.) An older Copal will have a second aperture scale directly underneath this, mounted on the side of the shutter body.

My lenses have arrived already. They were professionally packed, and are in pristine condition (as described). I can vouch for the fact that the rest of you will be very happy, very soon, if not already.

Joe,

Glad to hear you are happy with the condition of your lenses and that they arrived promptly. I hope you enjoy using them.

To everyone else who has ordered and paid for any lenses. All lenses were shipped within 24 hours of payment (usually less, depending on what time of day you paid). You should be receiving your lenses shortly. All US purchases were shipped via insured USPS Priority Mail and all non-US orders were shipped via insured Global EMS. So, please watch your mail boxes and front doors for your new toys to arrive.

Other than the 1000mm APO Germinars and 210mm Tessars, I still have plenty of all the other lenses available. So, if you are happy with your purchase(s), please tell your friends, neighbors and fellow practitioners of analog photography about these great lenses. Once these are sold out, I don't anticipate getting any more.

Thanks,
Kerry
