No penciling here, 3/20 not a good day for me. April would be a better month... that is if I survive March!

Guilty as charged, Whitey. I hereby rescind my previous idea of an afternoon meet-up in MA followed by going to the open portfolio night at the VCP. Too many moving parts and moving people. Instead I propose just meeting at the VCP open portfolio night on Thur Mar 20. APUGers can enjoy the portfolios and possibly show their own if so inclined. Afterward the diehards could migrate out for pizza or what-have-you at a nearby joint. The open house format of portfolio night would eliminate the time pressure to be at a certain spot on a certain road at a certain time. Stragglers would still be able to participate fully.

To recap: the gentleman from Boston makes a motion that interested APUGers arrive at the Vermont Center for Photography, 49 Flat Street, Brattleboro, VT on Thurs March 20 at 6PM or reasonably soon thereafter for an enjoyable evening of portfolio viewing and criticism. After the viewing, interested parties may gather for sustenance and/or libation at a nearby establishment of modest or better repute. All in favor say "Aye!"

Ok...Lots of penciling and coffee suggested, travel and meet-ups in Northampton and/or Brattleboro on the 20th, somewhere on Rt 2 on the 30th; no real plan. Does anyone have a plan? Sir? A plan...?"

I didn't set the agenda, but if many of us are willing to head west to the valley for a shoot on Thursday the 20th, we might want to drive out together. I offer to drive (Toyota Sienna, room for gear and people). If the folks who do the valley part of this give us a time and destination, we're good.

There are good photographic opportunities in and around Brattleboro too if there is any interest in getting up there early. In Brat. there are plenty of interesting buildings, people and stuff. A few miles up VT 30 is Stickney brook which ought to be pretty interesting with all the ice that's likely to still be there. (though it might be "challenging" to get down to the water).

I know everyone has google, mapquest and GPS's, but, the easiest route from the Boston area is probably Route 2 to I 91 North to VT exit 1 or 2. Easiest parking is in the transportation center parking garage next to the gallery. You can reach the garage from either Flat Street or Elliot street. Go up or down to the 2nd floor of the garage and there is usually plenty of parking.
From the Garage, the gallery is down the stairs next to the elevator and across the alley. There is also a small parking lot across Flat street from the Gallery.

Long range weather looks kind of discouraging. "Ice pellets"??? I'm trying, though.

Just think "spring".

If the weather turns out to be ok, maybe we can drag out the 7x17 in the afternoon if anyone is interested, but let me know so I can make the arrangements.

My turn to be a party pooper (what the hell is a party pooper, anyway? Sounds disgusting). I am not going to make portfolio night. Night time trips of over an hour are getting to be "do if absolutely necessary, otherwise avoid" kind of things. As much as I'd like to see the old place (lived there in 1960) and see Barry and the gang, I am going to give this one a pass. The day's shooting sounds interesting, though. I can try for that as long as we're not fighting a "New England spring surprise" ice storm.

At least it has been fun to gather on the mail list even though doing so in person seems to be challenging. I can't do tomorrow either, sadly. It will happen.

I will be wearing a fluorescent green hat at Open Portfolio night. Hope to see some APUGers there!

Wow, I was delighted with the breadth and quality of the images presented. I would highly recommend attending the April session if you can make it by hook or by crook! The analog community was a bit underrepresented so there is even more reason to attend.
